John, welcome. The surrounds on the M22 mid-woofers are rubber, not foam. Tomorrow happens to be the 10th anniversary of the arrival of my M22s, and I can say that after 10 years and about 25,000 hours of play there've been no problems with the surrounds or anything else.

John:
I have a pair of vintage AX2s from 1991 with foam surrounding the 8" woofers.
After 21 years, they still look & sound fine; however, I have heard that some of them disintegrated over time. I'm just lucky I guess...

Thank-you gentleman!!! that was a big help in confidence dept. I know that foam lasts quite awhile but rubber lasts just a bit longer!! That way when I upgrade to bigger fronts for the theater, the shop gets a good set also THX
