I touched on these prices in another thread about multi-channel SACDs and DVD-A, wishing that I'd bought everything that I had in my hands in the shop at one time or another.

Like: the Eagles Hotel California DVD-A, Steely Dan's Two Against Nature, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and the granddaddy of 'em all, Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won which is perhaps the most ironic as it's a high-res disc for a band known, at least in part, for its feedback and distortion.

OTOH, I did come out ahead with: Beck's Sea Change, Steely Dan's Everything Must Go, Robert Cray's Time Will Tell, Porcupine Tree's In Absentia and to a lesser degree, Donald Fagen's Morph the Cat. Surprisingly, Fagen's The Nightfly and Kamakiriad seem to have increased nicely as well.

The big winner so far though has been Porcupine Tree's Deadwing.

For $400, I want Porcupine Tree LIVE, and I want them to take me out to dinner after------after they spring clean my basement.

That's ridiculous. BTW, you sure you wanna covet those late Steely Dan's?

I won't say that they get the most spins around here, that's for sure.

So if you want that much from Porcupine Tree, I'm afraid to ask what you'll want from Roxy Music for buying the Avalon SACD. Yes, I have that one too, and I'm thinking that a bunch of these need to go into a safety deposit box.

A dozen sacd's at that price would equal a nice pair of Revels for me. Or a downpayment on a car! Like a 25% dwnpymt!

No, I don't think you're acquisitively insane. You should see my tool accessories. We're all willing to spend stoopit amounts of $$ on things we're hot for. Just because they're different dumb things from mine, doesn't mean I don't understand, you crazy person.

You're assuming that I paid high prices for those! Lest we forget, I'm a family man (read: cheap ba$tard). Never paid more than $30 for any of 'em.

Well that's too bad. I had a look for some good (well, to me, and hopefully to you too) cheaper SACDs on Amazon Canada. For your consideration, I own each of:

Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms
Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

There are plenty of others of course. The only thing that I'd say is be very careful when buying SACDs. Most, at least in my experience looking at pop/rock, are only stereo recordings, not 5.1 multi-channel, as those mentioned above are. For example, I seem to recall that a number of Elton John's SACDs were stereo only, though I can't find proof of that quickly on Amazon.

Find the SACD multi-channel music that you like - it's worth the search!

Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a phenomenal surround mix, and I believe Dean will back me up on this one.

I checked my other Elton SACDs and they are in stereo and surround though I have no memory of trying these out in multi-channel.

No problem backing you on that call Sean.

I’m not even a big Elton John fan but your multi-channel of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” sounded phenomenal, and that was long before I even got my speaker positioning dialed in.

P.S. Sean I'll be out of country again for the next two weekends be eventually I'd like to get over to hear your speakers.

Im probly goona get flamed for this, but im not a big pink floyd fan. If someone was palyin it back in the day, i would listen but not somethin i would buy. I have a wide music taste in music though. I did order some from amazon. Dire straights BIA.
Stevie Ray ,texas flood,George Thoroughgood,Foreighner Double vision.

I havenet spent much time listening to music in a long time. Work, kids blah blah blah, so now im having a hard time deciding what i want. I know that mp3's played a part ,they just sound like shit. Plus i am on the computer alot, sso that kinda cut into my listening since i like the quiet time. Now i have the rx-a1000 in my room and soon my M2's and extra vp 100 it should sound good.

Up until last nite i had a Fisher combo unit and matching speakers and it worked pretty darn good for casual tv watching.I put the yamaha in place of it with the fisher speakers and to my ears you can not tell i changed the amp. I think at low listening levels one amp is the same as the next, just an observastion i made without really thinking about it. I was just layin in bed and thought, hey self this sound edzachary the same as the fisher.

peace

I HATE that album. Years ago, in my ski bum days, the guy in the next room in the house where I was living would blast Hot Blooded every morning at exactly 8:00am. Every day, 3 months. eek eek eek

My sister got the Meatloaf Loco Moco at Cheeky Cafe in Seattle today. We tried it before, but we had to get it again. It's a spicy meatloaf topped with gravy and eggs on a bed of rice. Yum.

Yeah I picked up a last minute hop across the Pacific, California > Hawaii > Guam > Okinawa > Hawaii > California > AZ. I took it so I could buy a bunch of Japanese music locally since it’s much cheaper and a much better selection than anything here.

I also what to have you over to check out the AE7000, if you liked my setup before this projector will blow you away.

So i found a copy of this. This is supose to be a one off pressing so thats the theory behind the high price. Its was buy it now for 100. and i offered 80 and he accepted. Thought i was low balling at that, should have gone lower but did not want to insult him. HOpe its worth it. There seems to be mixed reviews about this disc.

We've been directed to several sites with links provided by The Rich One that have had SACD's for over $600, not by Mr. Loaf.

Is it for sale on Ebay yet?

Brand new Meatloaf out this week, "Hell in a Handbasket," or some similar paraphrase. He should name an album "Stouffer's."

Meatloaf was about the worst concert I photographed.

Maybe he was having a very off night, or was sick... but he just paced the stage, back and forth, singing off-key with his head down and not making eye contact with the audience.

Some sound pretty good, some meh, and some incredible. The consistent difference I've been able to discern is how different drums sound. Seem to be crisp with more of a thwack than a thwump?

For me, it's all about the mastering.

My belief is that a Redbook 44.1KHz CD can sound wonderful if correctly mastered.

I have some two-channel SACDs that are something of an improvement over the CDs, but most of the "wow" discs are multi-channel remixes. Not because I feel the need to be "in the middle of the stage" with music surrounding me, but because the use of other channels helps to give various instruments some "space" to be appreciated individually and independently.

YMMV!

There already is a late-career retrospective Meatloaf box set.
It's called "Fatter than Hell."

I was worried about the language barrier but it proved to be no problem at all. My Strategy to overcome it was to upload videos of the groups I was looking for to my phone and I just played them for the clerk. Some she recognized some right away and others she looked up on the computer but by having the vids with the band’s name on them she had no problem helping me.

Awesome. That's still better than paying the shipping. I wouldn't mind getting ahold of a copy of Zainichi Funk's album. He's that Japanese James Brown guy that I think BobKay linked to at one point. Ha ha. They seemed entertaining.
