Adam, we're just talking about the the digital outputs (aren't we?). I agree that different D/A converters can sound different.

I thought we were just saying in general. If it's going to the digital out, then the player's only a transport and I would agree with you there.

Interestingly, that $1200 player does have digital outs. So you can bypass all that icky tube stuff!
Unless they use tubes for reading the bits. That could explain why esoteric audio enthusiasts talk about the bad sound from digital recordings... 'Cause they're playing it with an ENIAC!

Ken, I'd have to think that those tubes in the circuitry resulted in much "warmer" 1s and 0s.
