I was hoping to get some advice on getting a home theatre system for my living room condo. it will measure approximately 10 x 14 feet. I've been looking at the Axiom speakers because of their compact size and rave reviews. I was initially going to go with the Epic Midi HT system because of its lower price but would the Epic Master or Epic Grand Master systems be better suited for my space? The room has laminate wood flooring and 8 foot walls. I'd like to keep the price down because i'm still in the hunt for an AV receiver. I'm not looking for the loudest system just one that will give me quality sound for my room. I'd like to stick with the bookshelf systems because of room size limits (don't want to clutter up the place). Any suggestions from those who have a similar living space would be greatly apprieciated

With a room that size I think that any of the bookshelves and a quality sub will do the trick. QS4s will be more than adequate. You may have to pay some attention to the hard surfaces, but that would be the case with any sound system.

I have a similar sized room about 12x17. I bought M60's along with the rest of the top of the line Axiom speakers. Thinking back I should have gone smaller for the room dimensions. I'm betting for your room size that the Grand Master or Epic would work well. Plus consider how loud you will realistically have the speaker volume in a condo.

I did apartment living for years and I had to have some consideration for my neighbors. I am sure this applies to attached condo's too.

That's a pretty small room. I think you'd be fine with the Epic Midi system. Though, as usual, I'd suggest going with a Hsu STF-1 subwoofer.

Thanks for the suggestiongs guys. I notice that for the surrounds it was mentioned that the QS4s would be more than adequate. With the layout of the room I'd have to either place them against the wall behind the couch or i'd have to place them just off to the side of the couch on stands. Which do you think would be better? I'm leaning toward mounting them high on the wall behind the couch to keep them out of the way but do they sound better placed to the side of the seating area?

The 4s are good AND forgiving. The general feeling is side walls and a touch in front of the listening position.

Hari, the most commonly suggested location for the surrounds is about 6' up on the side walls and maybe 2' behind your seating position. In your rather small room I assume that the couch will be close to the wall behind it. In that case mounting QS4s on the back wall about 6' up and spread widely(about 1' from the side wall, or where a side wall would be)should be very good and give you much the same effect as a side wall mounting behind the seating position.

Thanks for the advice John. You were right to guess that the couch will be up against the back wall. There will be enough space on the wall to mount the speakers as you suggested so I think i'll be going that route.

i live in an attached townhouse (on one side) and i just purchased the m60tis. the neighbors can deal with it when the system is complete. i usually turn the bass down a notch or two (sometimes)

I live in an upstairs apartment with my Set up. My room is 12 x 18, but the couch is forward in the room so the seating dimensions are more like 12 x 12. My system could be overkill, but I do not think so. If you can afford it go as big as you can, but make sure to ask the Axiom people whether or not the speakers will work in your room.

And my sub goes down to 25Hz, and I never get complaints from my neighbors (knock on wood).
