Raymond Weil this is the one that i am looking at. http://www.amazon.com/Raymond-Weil-Tradi...ds=raymond+weilI have personally never heard of this brand, but after doing a bit of online research they seem to be a decent brand. However, a couple of people have had issues with a different model. Granted, there will always be a minority of problems with any product. I am looking at this specific watch because it has a sapphire crystal, leather band, and stainless steel case.

Looks good, Alex. Just curious about why you list the leather band as a key feature. As soon as I got my watch(an Armani)which came with a black leather strap, I immediately had a black Speidel expansion band put on. More convenient to put on or take off, more comfortable(when properly adjusted for size), and I think better looking.

RW is an excellent and fairly well known brand. I have had one for years with no problems. I have several watches but prefer wearing the RW because I like a leather strap.

I buy many watches from amazon, directly from them or supplied through them. I choose watches, then 70% off. I have never had an issue with the purchase experience, but I have never owned a Raymond Weil. Be careful if you do the percentage off search. There are a lot of junk watches that were marked up so high, that after the big discount it still doesn't represent a good value. This might be my next one. http://www.amazon.com/Bulova-96B125-Mari...565&sr=1-10ANd I really want this one, but it is too much for me. http://www.amazon.com/Bulova-Accutron-Ph...610&sr=1-13

i had a Bulova Accutron in the mid 70s, and someone stole it. I liked it a lot, and it kept time within 1 sec/month (after adjustment by a repairman).

Alex,
I don't know anything about that particular watch maker, but while you're looking around on Amazon key in Men's Atomic watches. I purchased one of these back in February from Casio and I love it's features. Mainly it will up date time, day, date, and month automatically six times a day. There is a radio frequency that goes out from Colorado Springs hourly, from midnight though 5 AM. There are 6-8 place like this all around the globe that pick up the correct time off of the atomic clock located in Greenwich England. I never have to adjust my watch, this type of watch is all I'll ever own.

RW has a good rep. I've also gone a bit off the deep end with boutique watches, specifically automatics. I like the idea of not dealing w/ a battery, though you do have to worry about wearing the watch to keep it wound, unless you have an automatic winder. I have a C5 Christopher Ward with brown leather strap w/ butterfly clasp. Nice watches, well priced. http://www.christopherward-usa.com/An older LUM-TEC because I liked the black face w/ day glow orange. I have 38mm case cuz of my girly wrist size. It was a watch (no longer carried) that used old Russian movements that were refurbed and used for 'new' watches. http://www.lum-tec.com/And my current fav that I use with a NATO strap. https://www.bernhardtwatch.com/index.php?id=34

John, My other 2 watches have a metal bracelets one has a stainless steel bracelet while the the other is made of Titanium, i would like one with a leather bracelet as well... Gary, I am looking for a non-digital watch. Doing a quick search as you suggested all of the atomic ones that i saw were digital. oldskoolboarder The below watch looks nice, it has a 25 jewel automatic movement, i would rather have an automatic movement than a quartz movement. For the price it seems like a good value. http://www.christopherward-usa.com/men/dress/view-all-dress/c9-auto-ssk.html

dakkon I found this to be a decent watch forum. I bought my CW watch used from here for around $200 shipped. http://forums.watchuseek.com/forum.phpIf you get onto the CW mailing list, they will send you codes and notices of secret sales. There is one going on now for the existing C5 since the redesign is about to be released. For a boutique brand, in the year I've been watching it, it's held it's value well. Also, don't get too caught up on the band style. You can always change the band to leather, cloth (NATO), rubber, steel, etc. I do that on my Binnacle and it allows the same watch to have a different look just for the cost of a bracelet/watch band.

Alex, if you want the appearance/feel of a leather strap, so be it. Understand though that I don't use a metal band with a clasp, but an expansion band that simply slips right on or off.
As to automatic movement watches, even very inexpensive quartz analog models are significantly more accurate.
I notice that the dial diameters of two models that you mention are significantly different(35 and 43 mm). Generally the best appearance results if the diameter is correlated with wrist diameter. What's yours?

You'd have to spend thousands to get close to the same result with an automatic, even then a cheap quartz may still win. Think of it along the lines of why some of us (me included) spend $$ on tube amps, in addition to solid state. It's just something a little different.

My normal watch has a 30.4mm dial and a 40.2mm case. My wrist diameter is about 8inches (as measured with a tape measure). John, the Christopher Ward watch has a 43mm case, not dial. The Dial may be 33mm? just guessing.. From the manual, Accuracy: +20 / -10 seconds per day. I am ok with that range. Accuracy... My regular watch gains about a minute a week, it has an automatic movement. So, being slightly off as long as it's fast isn't a huge deal . I'm use to re-setting the time of my watch once a month. The leather band watch would most likely be worn the minority of the time. Which would result in setting the time every time it's worn... If i need to know exactly what time it is i just use my iphone, as i almost always have it with me..

Alex, actually I should have been referring to the diameter of the case, not just the dial. There's a rule-of-thumb about it being about a fifth of wrist diameter, so your present watch is right on that standard.
My watch gains about two seconds a week and is reset(about 30 seconds slow)just at the time change.
Edit: I better make that wrist circumference, too.

The link with the different leather bands brings up a question. What is the difference between cow leather and alligator leather? The reason i ask is because this specific option is listed on the christopher ward site for the C9 watch.. i have never owned a leather band watch before, so i am not knowledgable in this area at all..

It's a style thing. Alligator has a unique texture to it and is more expensive.

Mainly it will up date time, day, date, and month automatically six times a day. I question why it has to update the date six times a day? OK, maybe if you cross the International date line but that would require GPS integration as well. Sorry, just bored on a call.

I'm a watch junkie. I have Bulovas, Baume & Mercier, Swiss Army Officer, Rolex. I looked a some RWs but did not buy.
The watch I wear every day, and my recommendation, SEIKO 5 automatic movement. Looks very much like a Rolex date just, has a real mechanical movement, is pretty accurate (couple of minutes a week) and is comfortable. It has luminous hands and markers, date and day, the crystal doesn't scratch, and every time I recall that I paid under $80 instead of $109 on a World of Watches sale special, I smile.

I don't like large or heavy watches. Drives me nuts. I'm kinda weird like that I supose. I don't even like change in my pockets. So...I buy the lightest / smallest watchs I can find. The last two every day watches I got were Seiko Titanium. They are small enough and very light. I see the price has dropped on this one dramatically since I bought the damn thing. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000X5LMB8/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00For dress, I have a Rolex Cellini Clasic I bought a few years ago. It's plain, simple, light weight, nice leather band.

http://www.rovendino.com/index.php?page=talon-ii-titaniumThat is the watch that i am wearing right now... It's titanium, your right Michael, they are SUPER light.. They also warm up VERY quickly when you put them on.. I've had this watch since 1997, it's been a nice watch to own, and i will probably keep it forever as it's the first "nice" watch i was able to buy. When i was in Guam, i was able to view the Rolex Cellini Clasic's in person, there are 2 Rolex stores within walking distance of each other there.. They are Really nice waches. Murph, read the below website. http://www.atomicwatches.com/frequently-asked-questions_a/6.htm

I never wear watches, darn near ripped my wrist off once taking carpet up the stairs with a rookie. I have a cellphone that tells the time I want, Miller time! I usually don't wear a watch either except always when I am at the casino. Obviously they don't have any clocks which makes it so easy to lose track of time and I don't want to be going into my pockets all the time checking my cellphone. Cellphones for the most part have made them obsolete for me. When I do wear a watch it is either a stainless steel Cardinal Chronograph or a vintage 1960's stainless steel "small rose" Tudor Prince Oysterdate.
I’m armed and I’m drinking. You don’t want to listen to advice from me, amigo.

Alex, that's a handsome watch. For similar appearance, much lower price, better accuracy and Eco-Drive technology, you might consider this .

This was a fun thread.
I looked into that brand of watches. I had some misconceptions. I did not know that it was a new company and they had an internet direct business model. Their mission is to sell beautiful Swiss made watches without inflated prices.
I would be inclined to get one now for three reasons.
They could be bought and the new parent company could: 1. raise prices 2. lower the quality 3. both

Just saw your post. That's great. What an accomplishment of human ingenuity, understanding and perseverance. I don't recall who mentioned the Emporio Armani watches, but they are gorgeous watches at a reasonable price. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41q1YIvbHaL._SY445_.jpgOne of many styles

John said he has one, at first i though they were going to be ridiculously expensive. However, as you stated, they are reasonably priced.

Yeah, Alex; Armani has about 500 watches on their site. This one is mine. You ought to know me better by now than to think for even a nanosecond that I'd buy a "ridiculously expensive" watch. I paid about $150(as you saw, I'm trying to get you down under $200, too!). As I mentioned before, I immediately replaced the leather strap with a Speidel expansion band, which is the only type I'll wear.

John, i know your like me.. A value oriented person.. However,! you never know what some people like to "splurge" on, and i did think that this was something you splurged on... For some it's Scotch, others watches or cars... And still others spend monies on new speakers ... I do appreciate the valiant efforts from everyone... I think i am going to wait to get my primary watch back from being serviced. After i pay for that, i will evaluate and see what type of time frame it will be when i will buy a new watch. If anyone happens to come across something else, please feel free to share. I will keep an open mind until te cash is gone!

I've never felt the need for an expensive watch but my wife, girlfriend at the time, saved up and bought me a Wittnauer as Christmas present back in the early 90s. It is approaching 20 years old and it still never loses a second of time. It's looking a bit rough but I can' bear to give it up, both for sentimental reasons and because of it's reliability.

Ok, Crap... So much for sticking to my Budget.....
Today i went to my local jeweler, the one i get my primary watch serviced with....
Well, i asked him to keep his eye out for pre-owned a Patek Philippe Calatrava.... The reason for the change is primarily investment... Patek Philippe's generally are decent investments, as they are 100% hand made....
