Hi all,

Yikes, is this going to be terrible ? I have a weird room with few options?

I currently have a six year Sony projection. My gear sits on top of the unit. The M60's are on the side (of course).

I have no room for a rack and by years end I will venture into the world of Plasma and buy an appropriate piece of furniture to house the gear, center channel and Plasma.

I have been dying to complete my surround. As a refresher, I bought the M60's, Yamaha 2400 and Hsu sub at Xmas. I now can purchase the center and the QS8's will be next month.

So, can I place the center on the floor in front of the Projection ?? Sound ?? A shelf above all the gear and projection unit would be quite high up. I need to figure out what's best because I am going to buy it anyway as I want complete my 5.1 set-up.

Oh, and another question if anyone knows. What color are the QS8 stands ?? The Axiom picture isn't the best. I have Beech with black grills (except center will be black/black) Will these stands match ??

Thank you for the help !! Can't wait to add a center and the QS8's next month !!!

I'm not sure what you mean by "on the floor". If you literally mean on the floor then that won't sound good. If you mean on a short speaker stand, it will work great. The VP150 can be turned upside down and mounted on a center speaker stand so it will angle up slightly. Just as long as your VP150 is close enough to the TV to anchor the dialog to the screen, and is within line-of-site (or should I say line-of-hearing?) to the main listening position, then you'll be OK.

Thank-you Jason !!

I did not know there was such a thing as a center channel stand but guess it makes sense. I couldn't find one on-line at Circuit City or Good Guys so I tried a search and found racksandstands.com. They have one 12 inches tall plus the height of the center will put it right under where the screen begins. This might be a little distracting but will work for now as I have a much better long term plan with the Plasma. So I imagine the center will make a big difference for DVD's. Can't wait for the surrounds next month.

Thanks again for the insight to the stand !!

If this is a short term arrangement until the plasma shows up, you can do the shelf above and angle the center down. If you need more of an angle, just put a couple of rubber door stops underneath the back.

Rick, I have a Samsung HLN-507W 50" rear projection HDTV, Yamaha RX-V1400, M60s, VP150, QS8s and Hsu VTF-3R in a 20 x 16 ft. room. I initially had the VP150 on the floor upside down. It's now mounted about 6" above the Samsung TV using Axiom's Full Metal Bracket.

Personally I thought the VP150 sounded better on the floor. I know that goes against conventional wisdom but that's my experience. It doesn't sound bad now, but it seemed like the soundstage was clearer and more distinct with the floor location.

It's easy to try out on the floor. See if you like the sound. There are also some short center channel stands available.

The QS8 stands are flat black.

Rick, I think that the previous replies about having a VP150 on or near the floor would work well, but I'll suggest something different. The 12" stand plus the VP150 would be about 19 1/2", but so would a vertical M22. Although I wasn't going to use my M22s for center speakers, I briefly experimented with one, including on the floor just under the screen. It sounded excellent and is something you should consider.

Thanks all for the replies. I will receive the 150 on Thursday. Can't wait. I also ordered the center stand but haven't received word of shipment. Of course Axiom shipped immediately with tracking numbers etc. Just the best Customer Service !! Now all I need is the QS8's and I will be set..I am going to give it a try on the stand in front of the projection unit before mounting up above.

Thanks again..
Rick
