I am considering placing my subwoofer at the bottom of an L-shaped rack of equipment. The Bello AT-484 to be exact. There will be a 19x14" glass shelf over it, 3 more directly over that shelf and a fairly thin L-shaped rack support on either side. To me it does not seem like any of this is big enough to interfere with the sub sound. But what do I know ? I read subs are fussy about position. Anyone tried this or have any comments ?

Seems like you'll have some rattle issues. ???

I agree. If you can avoid it, I wouldn't place the sub on en equipment rack -- expecially if that rack also holds your other components. It could cause your CD/DVD player to skip or rattle the shelves.

Thanks guys. I think I was not as clear as I could have been. The sub will be on the carpet floor below the rack, not really on a shelf or touching the rack, on the space below but between the 2 L-shaped vertical supports for the rest of the rack. The components will be in the rack above the sub. Still too close ?

My alternative is to build shelving on wall behind and above.

Either way it is time for me to put the components on something other than the boxes they came in.

Thanks for describing the desired location of your sub better. After reading your clarification, I don't think there will be a problem. Just point the subwoofer's driver and port away from the rack and it should be fine.
