I wasn't planning on it, but I went to see Jurassic World with my cousin. My original offer was to use the discount tickets I'd gotten from work to see Mad Max: Fury Road when it came out. My cousin said yes, and that he'd get back to me on when. A couple of weekends came and went, and he had other things going on. No one else I knew seemed to want to go, either. He finally asked if I'd be up for a movie this weekend. Only he wanted to see Jurassic World. I agreed, but why is it so hard to get people to go see pretty dust storms? I know a couple of people at work weren't satisfied by Mad Max, but what do other people know. In any case, I may be waiting for disc for that one.

As for Jurassic World, it's pretty much what you'd expect: The basic Jurassic Park idea remixed, with the volume turned up, along with the obligatory self-aware jabs and references. It's not without its fun, but you can't go in expecting to be wowed. Honestly, though, whose expectations are that high for this franchise anymore?

I started watching the new season of Orange Is the New Black. It's still keeping me interested. There's already plenty of good meat in the dialogue, and I'm only on the third episode. Anything that makes me want to invest myself more in my own writing is a good thing.

I'll just say that I'm unimpressed with the quality of the video in HBO Now's web streaming. I'm not sure about the Apple experience, because I don't own any of their devices. It's my friend who has the account, so she comes over on Sundays to log in and watch Game of Thrones. The basic usability of the site isn't the greatest, either. I was expecting more out of HBO. I only hope they do a revamp at the same time Apple loses its exclusivity. I still plan on getting my own account when the three months is up, as there are other programs I want to delve into.

I liked season 3 of The Newsroom. I think I'll always have a love-hate relationship with Aaron Sorkin's writing, but there's usually enough going for it to redeem itself. He's obviously very smart, with a nuanced understanding of the subjects he tackles. It's just that sometimes he seems too aware of that. That being said, I enjoyed this show a lot more than I did The West Wing, though I didn't get as far into that show as I probably should have. Maybe one of these days I'll try it again.

I just started watching Rick and Morty since it's on Hulu. It's pretty great so far.

I've been letting episodes of White Collar play in the background when I'm doing other stuff. It's not a very good show. At all. It resembles Burn Notice a lot in tone and the way it's made, but with weaker story and characters. And Burn Notice was already a guilty pleasure. I wanted to give it a fair shot because one of my friends really loves it.

In other news, I decided to hook up my pair of M22s as wide speakers just because. I still don't have an attractive way to route my speaker cables, so it's a big mess. So far I haven't listened to a lot with them engaged. Just some Pixar stuff. Not an extremely pronounced effect so far, so I'll have to pay attention. I think part of it is that the LFRs already do a pretty good job of filling everything out. One thing that surprised me is Audyssey (I used the Quick Start to set channel levels and distances) set them at 40 Hz, just like the LFR1100s and VP180 (non-HP). I still knocked them up to 80 Hz.

Also, I'm kind of dating someone. She gave a cautious yes, so we'll see if anything changes. Yeah, I thought I'd hide my gigantic news in a post people will likely skip over.

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure how to read the situation yet, but so far it hasn't hampered my excitement. We've been friends for a while, which I think we both want to preserve, so we'll just have to feel it out.
