Jason, welcome back. Without going through all the marvels which theoretically are or will be available, my thought is the Denon X4100W factory refurb for a very well-featured and amply powerful receiver within your budget which has the essential Audyssey XT32.

I am fortunate enough to have one video rental place left in our area about 30 minute walk/10 minute drive from my house. Gee, TAM, the traffic in your neighborhood must be horrible! Or is there an obstacle course to the video store?
Always call the place you live a house. When you're old, everyone else will call it a home.

Driving - Including getting the car out of the garage & lots of 4 way stops where other drivers here won't wait their turn.
Walking - all up hill to get there & I'm slower than I used to be. But certainly faster coming home...
