I have my M80 v3 and VP180v3 sold, there not left the house yet, as I am waiting for information first on the Axiom Speaker lines. I asked this before and did not receive a reply from Axiom. I want to upgrade to the M80 HP's and VP180 HP. However, I am going to hold off a bit. The reason is now that the subs have been upgraded , the cross overs have been reworked, the tweeters redo and the woofers even better. If the Crossovers, tweeters ,woofers are all redone, are there anyplans on upgrading the mid ranges ? The woofers have been improved for high performance, the tweeters have been redone for the extra. Why have the mid ranges not been done ? This wouldmake the M22 even better. It would be just my luck that I order and a month later out pops an upgraded mid range. If most of the content in movies etc come from the midrange, why would these not be upgraded first.

Perhaps the mid range is deemed to be just fine...

Welcome to consumerism. Everything we buy is outdated before we buy it, they call it progress. I think you will be fine, most of the upgrades have been small improvements. If you have a sub your really don't need HP driver IMHO unless you subscribe to the 2 channel purity camp.

According to Ian, who I have talked with, they technically are both woofers. You need to really consider the design of the speaker to understand what is going on. The 5" woofers inside the M80 are boxed in and by this design have finite range they can deliver.
The new HP woofers were given a new stronger coil, beefed up cone and more travel so they can potentially give a lower frequency.
The tweeter got die cast for heat dissipation, and lowered the resonance frequency to be further below the crossover region.
What you called the 'mid range' is a smaller woofer that is forced by design of the case operate inside a set of frequency ranges. if you want to alter that then you are changing the guts of the speaker case, not just the actual woofer that you mount.
Mojo and Socketman are correct in this is marketing business and technology keeps on moving forward, and Axiom will release new speakers that will improve over time. By how much and if it will make any difference to you, I cannot say. It is up to you as the customer to decide it your current speakers are lacking in some way and if any changes or improvements are worth the cost to get now or in some future point.

One thing that should also be considered about the midrange is that it operates inside its own compartment independent of the speaker enclosure. The size of the compartment can be changed and adapted to the driver along with the crossover so no real changes to the driver should be required any time soon. I totally understand the upgrade bug , I live it every day On Friday I stopped at staples to just look at a tablet and 5 minutes later I was the proud owner of a Samsung Tab S. Ahhh , impulse buying ya gotta luv it.

Welcome to consumerism. Everything we buy is outdated before we buy it, they call it progress... I'm quite happy to be years behind the current 'progress'. I call it being smart with your money.
