On symmetrical hat channel, do you put screws top and bottom on each stud or is one sufficient?

Agreed, both sides, unless you are using channel clips, and then the clip gets usually just one screw and the channel snaps into the clip... I am assuming that you aren't using clips, but just wanted to mention that for someone else who might be wondering about hat channel in the future.

Here's the first wall of a basement room to be used for music playing and editing. This wall is solid concrete behind the studs. The other 3 walls will get Roxul Safe n Sound, and the ceiling will get 2 layers - one against the underside of the floor, the other on top of the suspended ceiling with a nice air gap in-between.
