newf:

I have an android Samsung TAB S; however, I've been using mostly the Vista LapTop so far. Tomorrow I'll run it on android to see how it does.

I don't stream music, only net radio. All of my music is on a Thumb Drive & so far has played it flawlessly.

I've cranked it up a little over half Vol without any nasties but then it is getting too loud for me. The default vol is set at 50% (on boot up) with max being 100%. I set mine at 30% & 60%. 50% on booting is a bit much IMO, depending on the source I guess...

You've an option to set the default startup Volume... So you can set it at 30, if that suits you better!

What I read sounded more like someone asking how it worked when you have your music on your iphone and had the AA play that music. Then it is not really being the music server but is acting as a remote device. The AA can be a whole load of things at once.

I have a Synology NAS that all my music is sitting on. I can listen to that music on my tables using the DSaudio app that will connect to the Synology that has all the music and catalog that you can select the tunes. As you add them to the play list they will queue up the song and just before the song is about to play the software will download a copy of that song to the local tablet storage so that the copy is local. You can control the cache size so that it will buffer about 100-1000 songs. If I ask it to play a song that it has already buffered then it doesn't need to redownload the song and can play from the local copy.

Now my Pioneer stereo can play DLNA and AirPlay too. But it has a very small buffer inside. Not even enough to play a large song so it I queued up say the 2112 by rush and after listening for a minute, turned off my tablet (off, not standby), then the song will continue to play for about 4-5 minutes then stop as it will run out of song data. Effectively the receiver is not playing streamed music in real time, but buffering and playing from the buffer. it just doesn't have enough buffer space to grab the whole song like my tablet can (and like the AA can) and the receiver also doesn't do song management so if you have a play list with the same song playing 5 times in a row it will re-buffer the song each time.

The AA has an adjustable buffer too, as well as an adjustable % load before play. So, when the phone is the remote device streaming to the AA, you are correct that there is a buffer. But, it's not buffering later songs (that I know of). It's really just the iPhone acting as the server in that case, streaming in real time, like you said above.

More field testing in progress here.

My AA runs perfectly on my Vista machine; however, my Android Galaxy TAB S is not communicating properly with the AA.

When I launch the AA APP (I've un/reinstalled it several times), it comes up OK. Checking in 'NETWORK' shows that it is connected to the Hot Spot plus my home network shows as being available - identical to my Vista machine. In my Tablet Settings - Networks, AxiomAir is in the list but shows 'Out of Range' so it is not getting the signal because the AA's lights are not flashing - normal I think.

The problem is when I go into 'MY MUSIC' or 'PLAYBACK OPTIONS' & Select 'BROWSE', there are no options showing on the screen, ie no 'USB' nor the 4 other selections ('WEBRADIO', etc).

I am able to shut down the AA with the Software option, so there is some communication going on.

Any thoughts?

Michelangelo, if this is a failure with the Android app, I wanted to let you know I will likely experience it also when I receive mine later this week. I plan on running the Air app on my Samsung Galaxy phone.

OK Thanks. I'll stick with the Vista machine until then.

Field testing does have its merits, ha!
