Hello Axiom owners,

I have read your boards searching for knowledge for some time now. Though most frequently all I find is a smile ; ). On a serious note.. The knowledge of owners demonstrated through the forums has amazed me. What a wealth of knowledge and experience has been placed at my disposal. This is both a blessing and a curse... See I can't sleep at night now because I ponder epic 80's or 60's... Denon or Harman Kardon...axiom sub or svs...do I have enough distance from wall to run 80's... This has gotten out of hand. I have even moved my plasma tv to a different wall to acommidate a set up I havent even purchased yet. Please make the bad voices in my head go away ; ).

So I can maybe sleep tonight.. and make a choice so I can spend some money

Question 1 : Any of the Denon owners know what the difference is between the 3803 and the 3805..and in your opinion is it worth the additional money spent. I am leaning toward the epic 80 system minus the sub (prolly go with other brand).
Question 2 : I know its been addressed several times before but I have always sat at the back of the class... Will both run stable in a 4 ohm environment (for front speakers) and still provide 7.1 listening?
Question 3 : Any comments on mounting center channel above plasma on the wall.. The place I re located it to provides better acoustic options but does not allow for a table beneath it to place center speaker.. Any ideas?

Thanks for the guidance I have already gained from your comments... Knowledge is a dangerous thing. before this group I was happy at Best Buy ; )

Whoo hoo! Got another one!

Welcome. You'll fit in here just fine.

The voices won't go away. Sorry. But they will be in amazingly high fidelity from now on.

Ray3 is your man on the 3805. He'll be along shortly. Or be short with you longingly. Or something. I'd be flabbergasted if either the 3803 or the 3805 had any problems driving the M80 load. Talk to Axiom; they will reassure you.

There is a post somewhere of Axiom founder/owner/genius Ian Colquhoun's setup - he has a VP150 mounted both above and below the big screen. Wall mounting a VP150 above the screen (especially with an Axiom Full Metal Bracket) would be an excellent choice, I would think.

Yikes!

How big is your room? What are the dimensions? For most rooms the M60's are plenty.

Hi - may I call you n?

Hmmmm, I've been following Tom's posts today with some interest. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think he may have some small pills that will help you with the bad voices

Anyhow, I really like Denon equipment because it works very well and is really reliable, good build quality - all the good stuff. There are not alot of major differences between the 3803 and 3805. Mostly small things that are somewhat esoteric and you must ask if the additional features are worth the money if you can find a good deal on the 3803. The big thing the 3805 has is the feature to allow you to auto-calibrate your speakers (if you buy the optional microphone). The net is this, if the two are close in price, grab the 3805. If you can score a 3803 for enough less to interest you, go with the 3803. They are both excellent and feature rich. If you want to deep dive, go to the Denon site and print out the info on the 2 units and you can do a side by side compare. I got a 3803 on a killer deal last month and I still have goose pimples about it (at least I hope they are goose pimples).

4 ohms? Excellent Ohm busters. Next question please.

I saw another bracket that has been posted here (2 arms that hold it underneath), but I can't find it. Maybe someone else can do a better job searching than I did. The net here is that the thing can certainly be hung. (step away from the keyboard Pete!) With the bracket I am describing, you can take advantage of the way the case is designed and point the speaker downwards to the listening position.

Spiff asks a great question about room size. If we are less that cathedral, the M60s will do fine.

The 3805 has:

-More power (120 Watts compared to 110 Watts).
-Denon Link for DVD-A, SACD, CD, and DVD-V
-Auto Setup
-Cool front door

Probably not worth the extra cash if you can get a good deal on the 3803.

My listening/viewing area is 20 feet deep and 15 feet wide. It also has cathedral/vaulted ceilings with an average height of 11 feet. One side wall is being remodeled to open up the kitchen and will just be an island area so the room does not have much surface to bounce the air wave thingies around on that side.

Also thought of another question.. with both the 3803 and 3805 I can operate it in 5.1 and send my other two channels out to the pool? .... To beat someone to the obvious I know i could just crank it and skip outside speakers ; )

Actually, you can operate in 7.1, not 5.1 and they do have a second zone capability to get you outside.

But you have to assign the amp to the back channels for 7.1 OR to zone 2 for your outside speakers. You can hook up 9 speakers, but only run 7 at a time and the switching capability is not for the zoned amplifiers.

With additional power amps you can run both 7.1 and zone 2 I think. It is only the fact that the unit has only 7 channels of available amplifiers on board which causes the restriction.
