For those needing to integrate with other system, I found a small and easy to use C# library that works well (retrieving info, commands and volume control). https://github.com/edward-murrell/NMusicPD

What control do we have over the sub filter? If we don't have any control, what is the filter set at? Is it hardware or software-based? What is its order?

I don't want to derail anything here, but it relates directly to the Air: I'm looking into (finally) getting a NAS unit with five of these. The Synology units seem to be highly regarded. The one I linked to, in particular, offers Plex server capabilities. Before I go too far down this path, will the Air play nice with a unit such as this?

I have worked with Synology units for a long time. There should be no problem at all with the air.
Word of wisdom. Don't buy the 1 drive unit. if you can, don't buy the j unit as they processor inside of them is just too underpowered and you will find that it bogs down with any of the other apps that you can run with the unit.
I have 2 of the DS209 (that is equivalent to the DS212j). It works fine as a single client interface. but get 2 or 3 people hitting it for larger files and it gets slow.
I upgraded to the DS412+ that has a quad core intel atom processor inside of it and I get blazingly fast speeds from my mac, along with multiple others hitting the unit such as streaming audio, video to my 3 media centers in the house.
My suggestion is buy once and buy big. It costs less to get a bit bigger and you'll be surprised how your data storage grows to fit all available disk space.

Just completed first battery test. Lasted 19 hours (dual battery pack). Can't say exactly how many hours it was actually playing (4-6 hours with volume at 85+). Once fully charged I will see if I can do a test with continuous music playing.

Thanks for the feedback, Matt. I'm looking at the DS1515+ as linked in my post.

Synology is very good. I've setup quite a few for clients. I have DS1515 as well. It's amazing what they can do for the cost. Make sure to use their recommended drives though.

How heavy are these things with batteries installed? that was one of my questions back when the kickstarter was on the go.
