Can I simply connect a wireless hub to the back of my receiver, add it to my network, then stream to it utilizing Mediamonkey? Or is it more involved than that?
Thanks

That depends on your receiver.

If you have a PS3, or android TV box, you can use a few different apps that will allow you to access a shared directory on your PC, and then stream any music or videos from your PC to the receiver over your network. For PS3 I use the PS3 media server which works very well for MP3 music albums. For the Android TV I use Plex TV which is very similar to the PS3 media server, and I also use the Sirius XM app via Google play store. You can also use Kodi, as it has a few Music add-ons like "Radio". There are also apps like Pandora and Spotify. Also, the Yamaha receivers (not sure about latest models) come with NetRadio built-in which allows you to stream music based radio stations from around the world for free. We use it quite a bit. Thanks Ken and Zak! That depends on your receiver. I have a Pioneer SC-1527-K If you have a PS3, or android TV box, you can use a few different apps that will allow you to access a shared directory on your PC, and then stream any music or videos from your PC to the receiver over your network. I don't have either of those. All help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like this is your ticket: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.php/WebHelp:Setting_UPnP/DLNA_Media_Servers/4.0
but essentially, yes, the steps you mentioned are about it.

I have owned one of those recievers and it has DLNA and AirPlay. so if you have a pc that has itunes on it, you can stream over the network to your amp. The mediamonkey is one app that you can use. I don't know if they make you pay for it or not. I ended up using Foobar2000 it's free and has a whole bunch of plugins that you can get for it. The one that I paid for was MonkeyMoteHD for my ipad that interfaces with FooBar2000 and gives me the ability to view/search/queue up all my music, make play lists etc. Now I went with a different approach to you in I wanted quality in the sound that I was getting and found that when steaming the songs were getting re-encoded to a lessor format, such as MP3 to be streamed. So I went out and bought myself a small Zotac Zbox HTPC (small PC) and loaded up a copy of windows7 that i had laying around. Loaded my FooBar2000 onto that and hooked it up via a toslink S/PDIF cable. I have all my music sitting on a Synology NAS drive so that might have some bearing on what worked for me and how I did it. Start off with something free and see if it works for you and what you find to be missing then go from there. If you have a small pc or laptop with HDMI output on it, then you can get Daphile http://www.daphile.com/#download that runs like a squeezebox and it's free and works pretty well.

I currently use Plex on my FireTV for all my needs. The firetv running plex is connected to my receiver. It connects to all my music and video on my desktop which is running the plex media server app. The interface is very nice and it can be controlled via the ipad app (5 dollars). Love it.

I have Foobar2000 set up to stream, but I haven't done anything on my receivers end. Before connecting a bridge to it, I was wondering if a bridge is necessary, or can I connect to my receiver without it now that I installed both plugins mentioned in the second post in this tread? Thanks
