Hey guys I need a new DVD player( my HK crapped out on me) I've got a budget of $500. What would you guys recommend? I'm more of a HT guy so SACD and DVD-A are not requirements. I'm looking at Marantz, NAD, & Denon and I am perfectly content with refurbs.

thanks for the help

I agree with Ravi. Last I checked, you could get a 2900 for about $500. They appear to be out of those, but they have deals on several other good Denon players.

I ended up purchasing a new Denon DVD-2200 ($459 new). I guess I will be using my PS2 for DVD's 'til it arrives

Good choice. I just got one refurbed. Its PQ is great, and the multichannel audio is spectacular. [open jar of salt reserved for rubbung in open wounds] Of course, I only paid $280 for mine [/close jar].

Are you going to do any DVD-A or SACD listening? If so, tell us about your setup, and how you configure your 2200.

That's a great price on your Denon. I couldn't find any refurbs online and $459 was the best that I found for a brand new unit. A HTS shop just opened in my area, but they were selling the 2200 for $100 more!
I made my purchase so I could hear what I was missing out on - SACD & DVD-A (figure it was time to upgrade). Since I got my Axioms I listen to more music than ever.

I'll follow up with my impressions once I get my Denon hooked up
