Hey folks
After reading Alan's blog on the value of surround sound music, I am interested in getting a music bluray for my brother (who has 5.1).
Any recommendations? Safe bet = acoustical folksy.

Needs to be able to play on an older bluray player.

PS...I'll be taking recommendations seriously myself (PS3 is my current player, which I understand won't work with some options- at least not in full capacity).

As always, thank you in advance.

sorry, wasn't clear. Looking for actual album recommendations, in the acoustical genre. Think female singer/songwriters. I'm completely oblivious to good recordings in the bluray surround sound camp.

I think most of the attention for multi-channel music has been for bigger sound - classical music and particularly progressive rock. Singer-songwriter recordings would gain ambiance; worthwhile, but probably not fireworks.

One you might consider is Amy Winehouse Live in London - I Told You I Was Trouble. Not acoustic, but fantastic performances, excellent sound and video.

I think I saw somewhere that Jewel had a concert Blu-ray.

Other than that, I'm not sure. You could check listings and reviews at blu-ray.com...

Not sure why your PS3 wouldn't work for this. I haven't used mine for 6 months or so, but up to then I didn't find a disc it wouldn't play (well there was one but it was a manufacturing issue and the disc was replaced).

Off the AIX link above...
"This disc was shot using HD video equipment and is compatible with all blu-ray players. However, the HD-Audio, which is encoded in Dolby TrueHD cannot be played back on a Sony PS3. The legacy audio will play instead."

I saw that disclaimer as well, which is strange considering the PS3 was a benchmark blu ray player in its day!

Thansk for the tips

I own a small collection of concert Blu-rays. It would be a bigger collection, but most of the artists I listen to don't really have the name recognition to move units. I'm sure I'm biased, but of the ones I own, the two Regina Spektor Blu-rays are my favorites. The Bjork one has really impressive sound quality and visuals, but it's not her most accessible material.

One of the best surround sound music DVD's I have heard to date is by The Pineapple Thief (Where We Stood).
