The first tube pre i had was a Jolida and it was noisey as hell (old house syndrome maybe. It just picked up every bit of EMI it could find and send it to my amp even without the TT connected. I tried every gizmo i could find and i finally sent it back. I bought a Project tube box SE II and have tried some different tubes but the stock ones sound great, probly just my hearing is too far gone. I did have to mess with the MMF at one point i had a channel imbalance, turns out the connection at the cartridge was compromised so i had to pull some wire through the tone arm and resolder the ends on. When changing the cartridge i always use a precision screwdriver to gently leverage the connectors off so i like to believe i didnt damage the wires myself. As for coming down that way, perhaps one day if i ever/can get a passport.

Homeland Security says that everyone needs a passport (unless one is crossing the southern US border illegally). It's been that way for several years.
Best to pay a bit extra & get the 10 year version...

Wow! Go know. I like Canada, it doesn't feel like a foreign country. I mean, it has good deli in Montreal (Moishes ... is it still there?) Got onion soup. You guys eat burgers, bacon with your eggs, right? You shouldn't need a passport.

You shouldn't need a passport. The US changed the rules a year or so ago... probably to get back at our border control folks. Americans didn't need a passport to come to Canada, but you had to prove you were American and some of the border control folks were apparently insisting that a passport was the only acceptable proof. Once you showed the passport and proved you were American then of course the passport was no longer required and you were free to enter with any other form of suitable identification. A few years ago I did manage to convince one of my friends that an NRA membership card was required in order to cross the border at Detroit/Windsor.
