Hello folks! I'm looking for some input on my current vs possible future setup.

I run m60/vp160 on walls around a 110" projector screen. Looks and sounds pretty great! However, I find myself seeking further perfection. I am wondering what I could expect if I traded in my m60/vp160 OW's for three in-wall M5HP's that would be placed behind a 135" acoustic transparent screen.

I have zero experience with the in wall variations. Obviously I will be going from dual standard 6.5" drivers to a single HP 6.5". I am more concerned with a potential loss of sound quality do to the in wall enclosure? Are they plastic? Smaller cabinet volume?

Obviously my OW's already suffer from low end roll off due to their smaller cabinets. But they still pack a punch and offer fantastic mids and highs. I previously ran OW M22's and a OW vp150 and these were a huge improvement adding some much needed depth and mids.

I trust that Axiom knows what they are doing, but I am just looking for some feedback regarding these m5 in walls. Maybe even someone that has experience with both the IW and OW variations? I do not require much below 80hz as I run dual UM18's that handle the lows with ease. Just don't want to take a step back in sound quality if I go with the M5HP's.

I also power my LCR and qs8 surrounds with a Outlaw Model 5000 Amp.

Thanks for any input or advice!

Compared to the M60 on-walls, the M5 in-walls have higher average and peak capability, are higher sensitivity and reach lower. The smaller complement of drivers may help with better room integration.

Hi TonyN,

The low frequency roll-off will not be an issue as no doubt you are crossing into a subwoofer. The M5HP does have a lower sensitivity so you will need a bit more power to get to the same volume level. Three identical speakers behind an acoustical transparent screen is a nice combo. I think you will like that. There is an option to use our in-cabinet speakers back there also because we can make them whatever depth you need. This would make it possible to go up to three M80 in-cabinets used as in-walls behind your screen. This would give you more sensitivity than your M60s and more dynamic capabilities. Thought I would throw that option out there.

Thanks for the input gentleman. I'm really liking the idea of something flush behind an A/T screen. Ian, I will definitely look into the in cabinet's as well. 👍

Ian, is there any form of mounting method for the in cabinet's? Or would I need to build a base and they would simply just sit in the cutout I would make in the wall?

Can't seem to find much info or photos on them.

We would customize them to fit your needs. Normally for a behind-the-screen installation we will put mounting holes down each side of the front baffle. If you are doing new construction then I would suggest boxing them in and we will make the front baffle just a bit wider to accommodate the mounting holes. If you are putting them in an existing wall we can make the front baffle wide enough to bolt to the existing studs.

Legend has it Ian sleeps 4 hours a night. He spends the rest of his time pleasing customers and telling Andrew the already amazing stuff he engineered just isn't excellent enough. He hand-delivered an EP600 amp to me on the other side of Canada 12 years ago, which he personally tested. He took care of me when I upgraded to v4 including self-cutting and self-testing DSP code in the chamber for the now standard flat/boost switch on the sealed subs. He and Andrew signed my EP800 drivers and my M100s. He also built the same custom 800 for SlimPikins and gave us each custom artwork on the sub plate. He's still helping Slim out on his Braxiom gear even though he doesn't have to. Anytime I've had a quality issue, he's always taken care of it.

The only complaint I have of Ian is he is too humble. He should have come to my place years ago, and beat me into upgrading to v4. Once I'd listened to v4, I'd have thanked him for the beating and asked for more as punishment for not taking the initiative to upgrade earlier.
