I recently added the LFR1100 Actives to my system. I am experimenting with no Centre Channel now and it seems to be working really well. The thinking behind this is since the sweet-spot is everywhere with an LFR do you really need a Centre Channel, would it actually be better without one? So, Ian, am I reading that you are taking the entire speaker lineup to active LFR based and ending centre channel development? LOL With Actives, yes. With passives, the center still makes a positive contribution. And wait until you hear Actives in the front and passives for the rear ... a 4.1 system that will astonish!

Blair, you have a terrific room and have set up your gear well within it. Congrats!

With Actives, yes. With passives, the center still makes a positive contribution. That was kinda my point, that Ian will abandon passives and move everything to actives. And wait until you hear Actives in the front and passives for the rear ... a 4.1 system that will astonish! That would be amazing based on the comments about actives on this board!

I think it is time for a new projector. The projector is 24 feet back from the 109" screen. One wall is glass so we only use it at night but the moonlight can still add a bit of light to the room. I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations? Thanks That is a very long throw that is going to limit your choices. Any flexibility on projector location? What is the aspect ratio and gain of your screen? Are you looking at 1080p or 4K? You might want to look at a short throw projector especially if you are not using a centre speaker. In addition to Projector Central, projectorreviews.com is a good source of information.

You know, it isn't as big but an 88" OLED would be a damn pretty screen. https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-OLED88Z9PUA-signature-oled-8k-tvAnd it only costs $30,000

Or just get the 2020 85" Vizio Quantum X for 1/6th of that price.

Hi Dundas,
It is that long throw distance that creates the biggest challenge. The problem with cathedral ceilings. 1080p would certainly be sufficient for our use in this room.

I've been watching the projector scene for a while. Given your constraints of a deep room and cathedral ceilings ... Have you considered a UST projector?
Until recently, I've been dismissing UST projectors for a few reasons as they used to be priced out of reach and had very limited screen sizes (120" max). But that's changing
Pricing is starting to drop below $3k (us) and there are a few which claim screen sizes of 150". I'm definitely starting to rethink my projection strategy as UST evolves.
