OK.. HERES A HUM-DINGER OF A DUMB QUESTION..
in my history of buying speakers, i also do the ole', tap the speaker cone test to check them out.. now, i have no idea why i do this, nor, what the hell i am trying to find out.. kinda like kickin the tires on a new truck.. doesnt tell you much..
well, here is my question(hum-dinger). will i hurt/damage/impair the speaker cones on my M60's if i give them a tap?? now, i aint talkin about playin the congas or nothing, i just know myself, and i know i will not be able to resist the urge!! plus, these are aluminum cones, and i have never even seen those, much less touched them.. so i know my curiosity will be at an all time high.
so ya'll give me some insight, and clue me in? and dont laugh, its a by-god honest question or i wouldnt be asking!

The cones and dust-caps are completely tap-safe. Just don't poke them. They don't like it.

Make sure you hands are dry and grease free as well. You don't want a dirty, greasy finger smudge on those beautiful speakers.

I believe you have a fetish Big John... Now that makes me wonder. Did buying your M60's and the newfound confidance in owning a fine set of speakers give you the strength to come out of the closet? Do you blush when you admit you want to touch your new aluminum tweeter cones. It's ok BigJohn there is nothing wrong with your urges. I don't know if I would act upon those inclinations. It would be upsetting if you got carried away and had to replace a tweeter.
On a side note.... With a name like BigJohn I would have expected a Woofer fetish. You Brute ; )
All in good fun /smiles

Notice he didn't say what he wanted to do to the gorilla ports.

well, thank ya'll for kindly and humourously letting me know its OK.. i just figured i better get that question out of the way cause i know within the first ten minutes of them being here, i am gonna wanna touch the cones.
yes mark, i would call it a fetish.. but i havent been officially diagnosed .. and i havent seen the gorilla ports yet, never know, they might end up doin' it for me.
so, wash and properly dry hands before touching.. GOT IT.. no iodine necessary mark.. its not surgery!!

Ok, I never thought this subject would come up, but I can't take it any longer. I m-u-s-t confess. I lightly stroked one of my m22s woofer cones, but only, once. And once I even inserted my hand in that "gorilla" port in the back.

I'm a little concerned about the tone of this thread, but I must admit I have fallen in love with my left rear QS8. Took it to dinner Sunday. I even have a picture of it on my desk at work. Shhhh - the wife doesn't know.
bigjohn - might I be so bold as to suggest that you call Axiom and have them ship you an extra cone? That way you could touch it to your heart's content. Perhaps even talk Shannon into a menage a cone? You could take your cone to work, to the park - even for a walk. This could be a beautiful thing.

yes, you did. and I have a whole family of fundies (rather long line of crazies) I can point to to back you up if need be. They've soured me.
No offense meant to anyone - just my experiences.

Gee, have these forums gotten a little blueish lately, or is it just me?
Not that I mind in the slightest...

unlike most speaker cones the aluminum ones will scratch very easily so if you dont wanna risk it then dont touch em!
I think your alot like most people, i cant go to a store with stereos that have exposed drivers and not see the dust caps pushed in lol

The cones seem robust enough, but don't make the mistake of touching those nice shiny tweeters. Mine still has a small fingernail dent on it.

I'd say no.
When I went to fix some 35 year old Denon hi-fi speakers for my own setup I found deep burried in the house of the grandparents, a mere small touch to the woofer and a huge rip was made. I had to reattach a broken internal wire inside, they sounded perfect.
It's probably because they were old as hell, but I wouldn't take the chance either way.
