I know that the sub threads are numerous, but here goes one more anyway. I am finally ready to add the .1 to my 5.1 HT. I have the M60s, VP150 and QS8s in a 16' X 24' room with a 16 foot cathedral ceiling.

I have decided on the HSU subs. Any recommendations on the STF-2 or the STF-3 for a med-large room? Is it really worth $200 more for the STF-3? Actually, I can still get the STF-2 at Compusa in NJ for $349, so it's a $250 difference in price.

Thanks, John

Greetings,
I would suggest that you contact Hsu for their recommendations based on room size, placement variables, etc. I had several conversations with them, and Dr. Hsu recommended the STF-3 for my 16x22x8 room. It certainly fills that room and then some...keep in mind that the STF-3 has a substantially larger footprint than the -2.

I did contact them and they said the -2 would work but if your budget allows, go for the -3. It left me wondering if the -2 would do the job. If it does and I never hear the -3, I'll never know what I am missing.

Are you going to be able to play your HT loud? Or is that going to get you evicted, and/or divorced?

If you have the ability to really let loose, by all means get the STF-3. If you can afford it, why not get the big one? Just like they told you, the STF-2 can handle a reoom that size, but a room that size can also handle the STF-3.

I sent a new request to Dr. Hsu and their response this time was that size room needs the STF-3. I have seen the STF-2 at Compusa and on eBay. I can get it for about $340, which is less than the Hsu site. Has anyone seen the STF-3 cheaper than the $599 that the Hsu site sells it for?

Thanks

To my knowledge, the STF-3 is only available at the HSU web site. The STF-2 is the only one sold elsewhere, I believe, and only at CompUSA.

I would suggest that if you feel comfortable with the STF-2, then by all means get it. I know a lot of people with this sub, one of them has the same size of room as yours, and he couldn't be happier with it. Everyone I know who owns the STF-2 have been more then pleased with it.

Now with that said, if you have any doubts or concerns, and you have the extra money of course, then you might be better off going with the STF-3, but the STF-2 will work out just fine for you, should you decide to go with it. Either way you can't go wrong.
