Didn't know where to post this one...
I'm looking for a CD player. I'm currently using my DVD player to listen to CD's, but would like to be able to show movies on the screen while playing CD's through the system. I'm very interested in the DVD-A & SACD formats and would like to enter into this realm on the low end. I understand most unversal players play DVD's as well, but that wouldn't be my primary use for it. Any input on an inexpensive universal with focus on music and not video? Maybe one with multi disc capability?
As usual, your comments are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
KOSMOS

If you want both DVD-A and SACD, the Pioneer 563a is the best bargain in town. It's about $150 at Best Buy. It also plays DVD videos as well, but it's single disc.

If you want a music only player, Sony makes a CD/SACD changer - But you won't be able to play back DVD-A.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to check out the Pioneer this weekend!
I've heard the Denon 2200 was good, but at about double the price.
Thanks again!

I got the Pioneer 563. Its does not play my new 'Tommy' disc. That makes me nervous about continued problems. Sure, they offer a fix but Pioneer only has 5 service centers in the US and you have to pay for shipping. Screw them. I'd rather pay more money for a more expensive player than put up with crap product that is sold on false advertising. Screw Pioneer! Make these companies pay for their dishonest business practices!!!!!!!!!

PS. I'm going to send it back to Crutchfield and blow a load of cash I don't need to blow on the Denon 2200. And feel good about it.

I never said the 563a was perfect. Mine has played all my SACD and DVD-A's. The only issue I've got with mine is that it's very fussy about dirt and/or scratches on DVD's. Unless I play a pristine DVD, I've had skipping/freezing problems. Makes it a scary proposition to buy used DVD's or Rentals, but new discs have been fine. At $149, it's only a temp player for me. When I get a new TV, I'll be upgrading to a much nicer player. For right now, I just wanted something to play SACD's back with.

I know cost doesn't always = quality, but that has been my experience with DVD players (I've got 2 and returned one). The very cheapest one, $119 Sharp (?) from about 3 years ago, would only play perfect DVDs.
If that's the case with the Pioneer then I wouldn't want it. Almost every rental disc is scratched, smeared or something.

I owned the pioneer for like a week, it frooze while playing a couple of CDs and i started hearing 'Fire Alarm' like noices from my spkrs......

In terms of cost/features, nothing can beat this player.

On a side note , the pic quality was a let down, i could clearly see lines on the tv when a bright red color is part of the scene......

The price will surely drop, i remember seeing this listed for 136$ on some site i dont recollect....

FYI, there are a few refurb Denon 2200's on Ecost left for $290. This is a steal as far as I am concerned, as mine was worth it for $500. Of course, I wish I knew about these refurbs before I bought mine. Anyway, just thought I'd post in case anyone is interested. But they're going fast.
