well, here ya go fellas!!
i will try and give color commentary.
first pic is standing right behind the sweet spot. in the pics, the grills look kinda pink.. THEY ARENT!! they are burnt sienna, and match my living room perfectly
same pic without grills
here is the left surround QS8. (notice light switch plate as wire cover)
right surround QS8.
here is the captain of my HT, the ONKYO TX-SR701
and its buddy, the VP150. i had to put some support under the 150 to angle it down toward the listening area. it isnt the perfect scenario, but it sounds just fine.
and my attempt to be artsy-fartsy. the low angle 'action' shot. notice the custom cabinets. the color is classic oak. again, it must be the flash, cause in normal daylight, they match the EC beautifully. with flash, they look darker. but trust me, they match wonderful.
sorry, i got a little carried away with the pics. i just figured ya'll would want the full effect. and yes, i do have a sub.. its a vega(it was a little camera shy).
thanks again to everyone, and i couldnt be happier with my purchase.

Gorgeous! And you didn't go overboard. I feel like you were just getting warmed up...I was hoping for some extreme closeups of the custom finish.
Anyway, I'm still really jealous. The installation is really clean and nice...
By the way, is that picture behind the EC a woman holding up a pair of diapers, or what?!

Very nice! My TV looks to be roughly equivalent so no "crappy" comments from me. (Although I do eventually intend to replace mine.) As a side observation, your entertainment center seriously dwarfs the m60s!

capn- that is a pic of my wife, and she is leaning against a white column. i can see the diaper resemblence. in texas, if we "hold up" something in a picture, its usually a beer or something we just shot, or both.
spock- its a sharp 36 inch tube. i bought it like 6 years ago. it is definitely past its prime, but it still works, and after the chunk of change i just spent on the rest of the HT, i will hang on to it for a while. we are a little restricted as to the size TV we can get because of the EC. but i have measured, and the 42 inch plasma would fit in there nice and snug.
ringmir- yeah, it is a big ole' EC. you should try moving the SOB around the living room. the hardest part is taking the 300 or so cd's/dvd's/ and records out of it so it is light enought to move.
bren- the wife loves the cabinets and grills, and is OK with the install. she isnt very keen on me toeing in the speakers, but she will get used to it. and she wants the speaker wire above the surrounds to be "less visible", so i am gonna ordr some of those strips that stick to the wall and hide the wire, and just paint over it. problem solved!

I'm not knocking the TV. Sorry if it sounded that way. I was just referring to an old thread by Spiff about "TV upgrade-itis".

Wow, I never thought I'd see a setup that made M60s look small...
Looks great. What finish are they in, again? (Terrible memory, too lazy to look it up... )

Likewise with the laziness...that finish is really nice.
btw...maybe it's just the picture, but you could use a white light switch plate and it would match the ceiling better, no?
Just being nit picky. It looks GREAT!

First off, Very Cool Setup, Dude...!
I understand your pain regarding the toe-in...my right hand M60 sits next to the door that leads into our bedroom...I have to move it over next to the DVD rack and toe it in when we watch movies and move it back next to the SVS when finished. I try to leave it pulled out and toed in when it is not in "movie mode" for better imaging when music is on but Sarah prefers it straight ahead and farther back near the wall...she says it impedes her entry and exit into our room...takes up less room straight ahead.
You can see here what I mean...
I need a different house!
Such is life...we deal, we deal...
Enjoy the music John!

sean- its just carpet. it is a thick, plush carpet, but it was what was there when we moved in. all we did to this room was paint.
if you notice, on the wall below the chair rail, we did a faux leather finish. its basically 2-ply brown butcher block paper that is torn in large pieces, then dipped in industrial wall paper glue, and then slapped on the wall. you have to smooth and crinkle it a bit to get the desired effect, but it dries solid on the wall, and gives a great look. it was one of the first 'DIY' projects we tried when we moved in the house, and it is still one of our favorites.
we have used other decorating techniques in other parts of the house, but this is the wrong forum. as long as my wife doesnt want to put a faux leather finish on the speakers, i should be OK
steve- yes, i feel your pain also. we need ray to pop up with some friendly advice regarding the wives..here in a year or so, i am gonna hit shannon up for new sub, the water heater type.. i cant wait to see how she is gonna react to that!!

Very, very nice, bigjohn!! Thank you for sharing with us.
I like the wall treatment a lot.
I noticed that the front, inside corners of the M60's are a bit behind the front plane of the EC. I know it doesn't seem like it should make a difference, but you might try pulling them forward just a bit to avoid any chance of early reflections clouding the imaging.
Beautiful setup. And your wife is happy too!!
Loved that comment about "the only thing we hold up in pictures is a beer or something we just shot". LOL.
Thanks again.

Looks great, John. I've got some pix of my setup that I'll post soon. I noticed the same thing as you did. My M22's match perfectly in room light, but the flash makes them look different. Congrats on a beautiful setup.

Awesome setup! Hope you enjoy the M60s and VP150 as much as I do! I imagine the QS's sound great as well.

Very nice. Thanks for posting the pictures.
And don't let anyone push you around on the TV. I have a 36 direct view tube that I want to replace as well, but a budget is a budget!

John - Excellent and well done!! I'll bet it was worth the wait. Nice sized room, great coordination. Let the listening/watching begin in earnest!
Oh - lest I forget, the astute guy might want to pass on Jack's offer to "send her to Cleveland and I'll show her some HD". He makes that offer ALOT.

Looks great Big John! That is a massive piece of furniture there. I know that it sounds just wonderful. If I remember correctly you live in San Angelo. I am originally from Odessa but now live in Suburban Houston. Next time I drive back to see the folks I will bring the Shiner Bock if you give me a listen to that killer sys. Back in the old college days played two football games vs. ASU. Is Zentner's still open? Fond memories of that place. I digress, but it's great to hear from someone back in WT

well, thanks for the compliment. man, someone sure dug deep in the archives to 'bump' this thread. i think the last post on it was like in june?
i do live in san angelo. you are more than welcome to stop in nad have a listen next time you are coming thru on your way to odessa. i am actually going to odessa this weekend to see a high school game a ratliff stadium, then going to a car and truck show at ector county coliseum. a friend of mine installed some LCD lighting in a show truck, and we are gonna go see how it does, and see the crowd response to the lighting. its kinda like neon, but cheaper, and more dependable.. i am getting off topic here....
zenteners is definitely still open, and still one of the best steaks in san angelo. not to mention, the pretty girl in the tight wranglers aint to bad either.
please feel free to PM me next time you might be coming this way. i would be more than pleased to give a listen to my "killer sys". hopefully by then, i will have a new SVS sub. hey, gotta keep the dream alive!!!

John,
Who's playing in Odessa this weekend? How is your team doing? Did they make the playoffs?

the abilene high eagles are playing el paso montwood in odessa. they try to pick a neutral site for playoff games, but there isnt any other places to play between el paso and abilene, so odessa is the best they got. abilene high should blow montwood out of the water, which would set up one of the best high school match-ups in the nation next week against the southlake carroll dragons(SLC). thats the team that played on espn earlier this year. abilene high and SLC are easily the best 2 teams in the state, and SLC is even ranked #1 in the nation. needless to say, i am gonna try and go to that game, where ever it may be. rumor has it they will play in the alamodome in san antonio. thats only 4 hours from here, i can make it.
my team, the san angelo central bobcats, did make the playoffs, and has already beat an el paso school in the first round. this week we play mansfield summit, but the game is in round rock(just north of austin), and i had already committed to going to odessa with my buddy, so i aint gonna be able to make it. unfortunately, our team is not that strong, and the only reason they were able to make the playoffs is because they play in a weak district. i am trying to stay positive, but all indications would show that my team will most likely lose this weekend. but, they still gotta play the game, so we will see!!
GO BOBCATS!!!

John, thanks for posting the pics! I love the furniture and the color of your walls. It's nice to see something other than plain white walls all the time. I also think the speakers match quite well with the entertainment center. However it looks like the left cabinet of the entertainment center is empty. Any ideas of what you're going to put in it? Sorry...just being nosy!

once again, thanks for the nice words. this is an OLD thread, that has been bumped.. i almost feel guilty that its up here again...
at the time i took those pics, the EC was completely empty. i have to empty it out so i can move it back and forth from the wall, it is heavy as all get out, and its just easier to clean it out. when i took the pics, i hadent got around to putting the stuff back in it. i used to have my sports memorabilia in the right side, and my wifes collectibles in the left. but now, she has taken over the whole thing, and moved my sports stuff to the 'man room' in the front of the house. watcha gonna do??
we have done lots of different color schemes to the house. shannon likes the home improvement shows, and she gets lots of ideas from them. sometimes they work, and sometimes they dont... but, every room in the house is a different color and technique, so it makes for a very non-boring living space.

Well good luck to San Angelo. SLC is freakin amazing. I saw them demolish Ryan Denton on ESPN. The entire SLC squad can flat out play. Their QB is a stud and I will look forward to seeing him playing on Saturday's. RD's QB was quite a player as well. I've been a long time fan of HS football and I know Texas produces a few of the best teams in the nation every year.

Love the Texas high school football. Man, Ratliff is one amazing high school stadium. I heard that it is the second largest in the US. Will definitely give you a shout next time we run up that way. If the game is in the Alamodome I would like to go. We live in Katy which means 2 hours to the Alamodome. OF COURSE that all depends on the outcome of our beloved Katy Tigers. They got a tough one this week but are defending 5A div II champs. I was in the Alamodome last year when they won, made for a great weekend in SA.
I will drop you a note if all works out and we go to the game SLC game. Er, by the way - that's why I think I have the memories of Zentner's . . . forgot about the great food. :-) Good luck this weekend.

Katy, thats another top notch football program. Is Midland Lee still a force to be reckoned with? I know for a while they had a string of extended playoff stays with a championship or two as well. I met this girl who transferred to my high school from Midland, she was the prettiest, sweetest sounding girl I had ever met. I think if I were in Midland I would not be able to keep my hands to myself...

i know ratliff seats 20,000, and i have seen it packed full several times.. our stadium here in san angelo seats 17,000, but it is not as modern as ratliff. it has the old school horseshoe design, and is set in a bowl, when you walk into it, the field is actually about 20-30 feet below ground level, its kinda cool. here is a link. our local college plays here too.
katy is a great team. always is year after year. i think they play jersey village this week, should be an easy win. i would like to see SLC and abilene play, but i dont want to drive to dallas.. do lets hope its in san antonio. but, if my bobcats can win, then i will be going to their game, where ever it may be. thanksgiving and high school football, dont get much better.
player8- midland lee was beat in the first round of the playoffs this year by mansfield summit. and thats the team my bobcats are playing this weekend. hopefully, they can pull out a win. lee did win 3 state championshps in a row from 1998-2000. thats when cedric benson, the heismann candidate from UT, was playing for them. he was one awesome RB to watch. they used to thump my team every year, but it was still cool to watch that guy run. art in motion almost.
