Hi Again,

I am just about ready to order my new system but I have a question regarding the impedence on the QS8's since they are rated at 6 ohms.

The HK630 is not rated at 6 ohms, will this be a problem? I am actually still considering the HK430, same question for that receiver.

Also, I am ordering the receiver and CD player (the matching HK CD player) from the US. Can anyone recommend a good on-line seller? I have been considering etronics.com, but they seem to have a very weak tracking system for Canadian orders. I am a little leary.

Can any other Canadians suggest, or share their positive cross border purchases from US retailers?

Thanks again,

GO FLAMES GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

The H/K 630 and other H/K receivers will drive the 6-ohm QS8s with no difficulty. In fact, H/K is one of the few brands of A/V receivers that I recommend for our M80 towers, which are 4 ohms.

By the way, you don't have to "match" the impedance of the speaker to the receiver. Any brand of receiver will drive 8-ohm or 6-ohm loads with no problems. It's only low-impedances of 4 ohms that may cause overheating, or protection-circuitry shut-down with some brands of receivers. But Denon, H/K or new NAD receivers will drive lower impedances in most cases without problems or current limiting.

Thanks,

I found what I think is a good deal on a Denon-2803 in Calgary. This receiver looks comparable to the HK 630 in most respects.

Is there a major difference in the sound between the HK's and the Denon model receivers?

Din - the answer to that question is completely subjective and hard to quantify. My old 1803 and my new 3803 was/is great with the Axioms. This particular subject is one you don't really need to fret about.

Hi Din, I too am in Calgary. Lovely weather we are having, EH. Don't worry about the receiver, I have the 1804 and it sounds great. Any differences in most receivers can usually be adjusted with bass and treble controls.

Hi Jake,

What speakers are you running on that 1804? I am still arguing with myself between the HK630-7200, and the Denon 2803-3805 (a little pricy for me though)

Of course I want excellent sound quality, but I would also like eardrum destroying loudness!

Yes, the weather has been lovely, but all I have been noticing lately is the FLAMES annihilating everyone that crosses their path!!

GO FLAMES!!!

I too am going through the "what do I buy" thing with these recievers. The HK 7200 looks like a better deal, I'm finding it for around $800. I have found the Denon 3805 or $945. The HK is missing prologic IIx. Is it prologic IIx worth it? I do plan on running 7.1 which brings up another problem. Seems like you get more speaker hookups with the Denon for Zone II, which I need. I hate to lose the rear surrounds running zone II, but with the HK, it looks like you would be unhooking speaker wires to switch between your rear surrounds and your zone II speakers. Is there away around this? I'm pretty new to this HT stuff myself. I wonder how ya'll are not completely crazy (maybe you are) with the "which is better, can I afford this, did I make the right choice" questions that are keeping me awake at night.

Din, I am using M22's, VP 100 and QS8's(3) with the Denon. And the Flames are going to take tonights game in OT.

The M60's will play louder than the M22's by themselves. I can crank it up to the point of rattling things off shelves with the full sysem running.
