I have a chance to pick up a second set of m22s for a really great price, and I was wondering whether I should jump on them or save up a little cash to get the QS4s or 8s. I'd say I primarily use them for music (80/20 I guess). I current receiver only supports 5.1, so at the moment buying them and adding dipoles later on isn't an option. I guess my main question is are the QS8's good enough to pass up a set of m22s with stand for $240?

Harman Kardon: avr-630, dvd22

For me this would be a bit of a tough decision even as cheap as the M22 are. Certainly recommendations around here are Q's for HT/surround and direct speakers for DVD-A/SACD, and you do mostly listen to music.
The Q's are outstanding surround speakers and also do very well for directional content. In addition they are VERY forgiving in placement.
In a thread I read recently Alan seems to say that the Q's and M22 where pretty equal for music and surround effects when the listener is sitting in the optimal listening position, however, if sitting anywhere from this position the Q's where superior to the M22 ( this would be true for any direct radiating speaker ).
As I understand it this is also a bit philosophical in that some believe surround speakers should give more ambient ( like in a real life setting ) sound while others like more directional sound from the surrounds. Ultimately I think this is very much a personal preference.
For me I would make the decision based on the number of people listening at one time. If it was just me and perhaps one other person where I/we could sit pretty well in the optimal position I'd get the M22's. However, if I wanted the system to be more accomodating to more listeners and unusual surround speaker placement, I'd wait and save up for the Q's
Cheers, Mike

if they are very cheap, then go for it. if not then dont.
i am about 90/10 music and i originally bought 4 m22s. I returned them for m60s and was much happier. I was surprised to find out that 5 channel stereo sounded worse(somehow) then 2 channel stereo. 4 channel stereo sounded pretty good on my klipsch 4.1, but for what I wanted 4 channel stereo with the axioms was not the answer. The soundstage sounded a little off.
This was 6 months ago and now I am waiting on my vp 100 and qs8s to come. Also, get a sub if you dont already have one
