Yes, it does take up more space. Fortunately, you've got a 40 GB iPod. Do you know how to import your collection partially?

Yea! I started with the cds that I like all the tracks on. I've just gotten down to the 100 or so that I was going to import partially. I havent compared file sizes yet, but would assume they would at least double in size. I'm not as worried about the hard drive (Ipod) space as much as I'm worried about the time factor. I didnt leave any of the files in Itunes, because my home mac is an old style Imac and didnt want to take up any of the 13GBs I have left on that hard drive.
I "was" going to get a G5 for my home Mac but spent all the $$ on new AXIOM speakers. I may try to find a refurb e-mac for home, since I only do a little Photoshop work here.
Do you have any good places I can look (for a refurb e-mac)
Or I may spend that $$ on a new SACD/DVD player.
Decisions Decisions.

Where are you located? I have no desire to toot my company's horn, but they do have a tendancy to sell used machines appalingly cheap. I don't know if we have any right now, but if you want more info, pm me. You could also look here or here, but I tend to thing these are horrifyingly overpriced. Also check Apple's special deals section in their online store.

You could also look for Apple Resellers in your area. They're the ones who tend to get this sort of thing from customers and then pray that they can get rid of it...

funny, with all the new compression options I feel like some old timer that refuses to let go of something... ie mp3, and I only encode with LAME w/VBR (EAC for the ripper )
It seems to me all the talk on ACC, ogg etc is for ppl that use 128k, which I never would consider as an option if I was looking for near or equal to CD quality.

I might be able to get you a deal - and I'm in Austin, so shipping should be almost free. I'll have to check, but I work for Apple, and they blow out old stock to employees/friends of employees quarterly. A 1.6 G5 was only $1199 a little while ago, but that ship has sailed, unfortunately.
Let me know what you are interested in, and I'll look into it!
