The rear wall of my Home Theater is really a folding retractable partition. The only way I can mount my QS4s for the rear center is either from the ceiling or use a speaker stand. My QS4 side surrounds are mounted about 3 feet above the sitting position or about 6 feet from the floor. I could use the AXIOM QS4 speaker stands for the rear center surrounds, but the maximum height is 36 inches. Any suggestions?

You can always look for a taller speaker stand. Do not limit yourself to the Axiom specific stand.
Ceiling mounting can be a pain and personally i think it looks like hell. This may not be option for you if the folding partition behind the speaker is often used depending on the space between the hanging speaker and that wall opening.

Given the diffuse dispersion of sound with the quadpoles, they should be quite forgiving in terms of how high up you mount them relative to the side surrounds. If they're mounted, say, at your listening position height, you'll hear more information from the upper woofer than you would if they were mounted higher up, so losing the lower woofer's output isn't that big a deal.

A 36" stand is certainly adequate, but you can consider different stands as well.

The only thing i don't like about the 36" stands is that some couches have high backs. If you were to use them for a rear centre stand, the speaker could potentially sit below the listener ear behind the couch/seat, which i think is one position that will not work even though as fhw says, the quadpole dispersion is quite forgiving.
This is not to say that sometime in the future we won't have a 15.1 system with speakers under the couch, in the couch, above the couch, beside the couch, behind the couch....

I agree the 36" stands are a little low for rear center surrounds. The good thing about the AXIOM stand is that it is "open" which allows the lower woofer to output a signal. I spent most of this afternoon trying to figure out a way to mount the QS4s. The only thing I could think of was to mount of strip of wood to the ceiling and attach a board perpendicular to it. The board would be kind of a "small rear wall" in front of the folding partition. I would mount the QS4 on the board...only thing this would be kind of cheesy for such a nice speaker.

My QS8s are presently sitting on a bookshelf and a side table. They come with little rubber feet which i believe were for the back of the speaker to use when resting as mounted against a wall. However, i went to Canadian Tire and picked up some slightly larger rubber feet and mounted them to the bottom corners of the QS8s so as it sits on a flat surface, like a standard speaker stand, then at least the bottom woofer has a half inch or more to 'breathe' and isn't being completely muted or buried.

Hi,

Re fhw, don't worry about "losing" the lower woofer's output from the QS4. The frequencies radiated from both woofers tend to spread around and reflect from room surfaces before they reach your ears. The QS4's dispersion pattern is almost omnidirectional in nature, which is why it's fairly forgiving of imperfect placement.

I suspect the stands would work fine, although I haven't tried that arrangement myself.

You said in your reply to fhw: "The QS4's dispersion pattern is almost omnidirectional in nature, which is why it's fairly forgiving of imperfect placement." What would be considered as perfect placement for both the side and rear center surround locations?

I finally resolved the QS4 mounting problem. Thanks to AXIOM Tech Support for their help. I mounted the QS4s to a wood panel that I attached to the ceiling. They are about 6 feet from the floor, the same height as the side surrounds. For me, this is perfect placement for my QS4s.
