Can anyone help me with setting up these two components for two channel stereo. Do you just run a single digital coax line from the DPR to the Pioneer or plug in the RCA jacks to the L and R audio?? Or, do you plug in both?? It seems like I can't get two channel sound out of my DVD-A discs just surround sound. You can tell the difference when you listen. I eventually will get the surround speakers, but I do not have them yet. The prices of the H/K DPR 1001 went down close to 400.00 dollars and I thought I'd give it a chance. It initially listed for 1499.00 when it came out a couple of years ago. Thanks in advance.....
Todd

Do you have the manual available for your Pioneer? I'd read through the connection instructions.

For general info, you will need to use analog interconnects between your Pioneer and your H/K in order to hear the high-quality audio contained on SACD and DVD-A discs. The digital cable will only carry the DTS-encoded version of DVD-A titles, and won't work at all with SACDs.

Todd, as Peter pointed out, you should study the applicable parts of your owners manual carefully. You haven't given complete details, but if I follow, you've connected your player(probably a 563)using the digital output and want to play DVD-As on your 2-channel setup. Using the actual DVD-A track would require 6 analog connections and the speakers to play them; the digital connection will output the Dolby Digital and/or DTS 5.1 track which is also present on DVD-As(theoretically not of quite as high quality). To play that 5.1 track correctly in 2-channel you need to do two things: set PCM (p.55 if 563)which "downmixes" 5.1 into 2-channel; then set the output(p.66)for 2-channel rather than 5.1.
