Hello everybody. This is a question for all who have knowledge of the Yamaha RX-V3300.

My local Good Guys is closing out their RX-V3300 (zone 1 "130"x6 + zone2 "25"x2)receivers for 750. My searches show web prices mostly in the 900-1000 dollar area. I was looking for a HT receiver, but wasn't considering this one.

Is this a steal? Should I run out and get it today? Or is it yesterday's news?

The 3300 is a great receiver, with loads of power and features. In many ways, it is superior to the current 1400 and 750 offerings that Yamaha is pushing with YPAO and 7.1. But that said, it is a little bit of yesterday's news. Again, though, mostly because it doesn't have any 7.1 processing or outputs and no YPAO. Now, that said, 7.1 and YPAO are, by no stretch of the imagination, necessary features. If the 3300 has the kind of power and features (component switching, second room capability, inputs, DSPs, etc.) that you seek, then go for it at that price. It certainly is a quality product that will make you happy.

Think of it like buying last year's computer. It still kicks a ton of a$$, has loads of features and will satisfy your needs. It just doesn't have some of the bells and whistes that manufacturers are telling you that you "need."

It seems we all did fine with last year's computers and receivers last year. And the last time I checked, this year ain't that much different than last - especially in the land of DVD (and 6.1 vs. 7.1).

So, take it for what it's worth. A good deal on last year's stuff.

I spent far less time deciding on Axiom speakers than I have spent so far trying to pick a HT receiver. And I still haven't picked one. I have no explanation for that.

Actually, all these reveivers have more than I need. I need six-channel, flexible setup, OSD, and enough power for 250ft2/2000ft3. I don't need zone2, 5300 DSP modes, or most of what else passes for "features". I'm not sure if I need PLIIx.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me up to about 800.00?

Hope you are well. I have not heard the yamaha, but that sounds like a great deal.

I have a Harman/Kardon AVR 630 which I love, it can be had for around $819 dollars. The thing is a beast at over 41 lbs, rated at 75 high current watts per 7 channels. 90 watts per channel in stereo.

I think the most important feature difference would be the video-upconversion on the 750. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the 3300 has that feature...it would be the deal-breaker for me personally.

Larry, consider the Denon 985 , identical to the 2850 but in silver only, or the Yamaha 5790 , essentially the same as the 1400.

JohnK, thanks for the tips. You must have read my mind! Both the 2850 and 1400 are on my short list and these are both more affordable than the models I knew.

Those links you gave me, were they just for reference or can you recommend that store?

Larry, I've never dealt with them, so I can't recommend them based on experience, but the customer reports on them seem to be quite positive. If I was going to buy one of those two receivers I would order from them.
