Hey folks,
I haven't been around much since purchasing the M60s and QS8s last fall. I still love the speakers and am looking forward to be able to afford a good sub to complete my setup.

Now, my brother-in-law asked me to find him a good speaker set up for his pool table room. The room is 13' x 23' with... a pool table in the middle. This would be mostly to listen to music. I immediately thought of the M22s, but he wants the speakers hung on a wall to take up less room. This is in a basement, so the ceiling is not that high. So now I'm thinking the smaller M2 or M3s with a EP125 sub. Would a sub even be necessary?

Oh yeah, mostly easy listening, jazz and country... and no crazy volume either.

Opinions? suggestions? recommendations?

Thanks,
Rocky

Rocky, are we talking about just a 2 speaker set up, or a surround setup?

The 22s ARE wall mountable using the Full Metal Bracket which can hold up to 40 lbs. The 22s are only 16 lbs. Obviously the brackets will also work with the M2s and M3s as well.

If you are talking about a stereo setup only, it is generally considered that the M3 is the better choice. It is a bit more "laid back" than the M2s and M22s, but it plays a little deeper in the frequency range than the M2s, and about the same as the M22s. However, that is a large room. The 22s will play louder, and probably do a better job of filling that space, though the M3s would do OK. Any of the 3 speakers will do better with a sub, of course.

Were it I, I would go with either the M3s or M22s, letting budget, and how much space can be alloted to the speakers be the deciding factors.

Thanks for the response Jack.

Yes, we are talking just a 2 speaker set up with maybe a sub. I too thought about the 22s right away, but since the ceiling is not that high and they wanted the speakers kind of out of the way in the corners, I thought the M3s might work best.

I don't think budget is that big a factor, more they are going for a more discreet look. I think we might try a set of M3s and if need be, add a subwoofer.

Thanks,
R

Rocky,

If you add a sub, get one with a 10-inch driver (EP175). That room is a little large to use a sub with an 8-inch driver. You may find the M22s or M3s produce ample bass without a sub, unless you want to crank things up a bit, and I suspect that might be the case if there's a pool table in the room. Party on.....
