Hi,
I have M3ti which rated at max amp power of 175Watts. So, i plan to add a 5 channel amp (200wpc) to the system. I was wondering whether M3ti can handle this load?
thanks.

Emphatically, YES. You don't really have to worry about how many watts the amp can push and whether or not that is more than the speakers are rated for. Sure, you can find an amp that will shoot your speaker cones across the room, but your ears will be shot far before the M3s give up the ghost.

I can't see why there would be a problem, 25 extra watts is such a small difference, and I doubt very much if your amp is actually putting out 200 wpc when driving all 5 channels. What model is it?
I'm sure Axiom tests them well beyond these limits.

You're more likely to cause speaker damage by using an amp with too little power, than by using one with more power than your speakers are rated to handle.

The more the better. Its true you would likley do more harm to under power your speakers than over power them. There would be less of a chance to clip the amp which is the #1 reason for tweeter failure. So I have heard.

Hi audiofan,
I presume you are using a subwoofer and you'll be setting the M3ti's to "Small," right? Sure, the M3ti's will "handle" significant peak levels within the limits of a compact speaker.
In a general way, compact speakers do not have the same power-handling capabilities as large floorstanding speakers like the M60s or M80s, with arrays of four to six drivers. But the M3ti's should be fine up to levels that are very loud in a normal-sized (2,000 cu ft) room (not a large room).
With any compact speaker, you should be able to discern power handling limits long before any damage might occur. Typically, compacts may get somewhat edgy or coarse-sounding as distortion is increasing until it becomes audible and you approach the limits of the drivers. If you hear a sharp "snap," you may be bottoming a voice-coil on the magnet assembly. Turn the volume down immediately; better that you don't ever push them to that level.

thanks all. I set my M3 as small and let the sub handle the low level signal.

Hi Audiofan
Whether you have a 175 wpc or a 1000 wpc amplifier, you probably will never listen to levels which draw more than 20 watts unless you blast them for home theater which might hit a peak of 100 watts, but the police will shut you down before you overdrive these speakers with a monster amp.

Yes, the police will shut you down I know from personal experience.
I've heard that it's better to over power a speaker than under power. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Is this true?
