>>Historically, instead of getting what I want, I've always settled for what appears to be a deal, or bang for the buck. That's what probably lead me to Axiom, which has turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.

I spend a lot of time looking for that "deal" as well. The trick, I think, is to keep your mind open to the fact that there may NOT be a real deal in the particular product you are looking for, and then you just have to compromise or wait for what you want.

That said, "great deal" products do show up all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pioneer turns out to be a great product.

Hey, dumb question for you all. I can't find the model with the "K" on the end up here -- is the "K" suffix something special or are we just talking about the regular 1014 model here ?

I think you're jumping the gun just a little too soon buddy. I've been in this hobby for a very long, long time, and if there's one thing I can assure you of, cost doesn't always mean diddly in terms of quality.

There's a lot that plays into what a product ends up selling for. The notion that one has to spend $700-$1000 dollars in order to get a good quality receiver is just flat out horse crap, cause that just isn't so.

Just because a product doesn't share the same high price as it's competitors, does not in any ways shape or form mean it's inferior. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Again, there's a lot of different things that factor into the price of a product, and believe it or not, pride in a companies name is offten a big factor, one in which that is offten over looked, yet can be easily seen when looked and investigated hard enough.

Now, I could be wrong and only time will tell, but I honestly believe you're going to end up eatting your own words once you receive your 1014TX-K. This is not your average run of the mill receiver, regardless of what it's price tag is. It's truly and outstanding receiver, one in which I have found to be better then most. No, not all, there's certainly receivers out there that are clearly better. However, all in all, dollar for dollar, the Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K is pretty darn hard to beat for the money.

It's virtually identical to the 52TX and is essentially the exact same receiver, minus a few very minor features. The 1014TX-K is absolutely phenomenal and is truly an exceptional receiver. I think, and again I'll point out, I could be wrong, but I think you'll find all this to be true once yours arrives and you get all setup and calibrated properly.

Bridgman:

The K simply stands for black. Some of Pioneers receivers are available in silver, so the models that come in black and or are available in black has the K attached to end.

As far as the VSX-1014TX-K goes, it doesn't come in silver, therefore if you see it somewhere and it doesn't list the K, it's simply because the store, retailor, or etailor just left if off due to the fact that it's only available in black.

SutterCane,
I'll back you up %100
Based on the same logic I've bought PE2012 which is PE45TX
(which has almost the same set of futures as 55tx and better remote then 53TX) without "ELITE" sticker and I still have 2 years warranty (used CC).
Real gem - sounds better for me then HKs of any price, better then Marantz 7400 which is twice the price, quality is very good, heat sinks big enough to keep fan off,
and ... SOUND. MOSFET is as close to tube as it gets.
Nice match for my M60s for only $600.
1014 seems to be the same kinf of a deal

The last thing I would want to do is to create an argument. I'm just recording my observations of the 1014. If one needs a receiver and doesn't want to spend a fortune, it's not bad. It has the characteristic Pioneer sound. If one is trying to upgrade older equipment, in my opinion, it's not worth the effort. My m22s are getting bored, already. I have an older non-DD Pioneer that I actually like better for stereo listening. Gotta go, now. The Yammie is calling.

It appears I can't return the 1014. I'm taking offers.
