I posted some time ago I have a pair of almost new JBL ep-250 subs, these are not "high end" but not bad, one swap with my dual 580 watt earthqake supernovas reveal that, but I had a thought. These JBLs don't sound bad at all, They were my girlfriends, she's here know and they are just taking up dead space, they are 250 watt powered subs with 12" drivers. What if I ran these subs in conjuction with the rear QS-8s, I have a perfect spot(s) for them, they would provide additional rear bass, but I want to use them for HT only. I don't want then clouding or congesting the music thats sounds so clean now. OR would I be better of running them as seperate dedicated surronds (side or rear) and not in paralel with the QS-8s I have a 5.1 set-up now, but capable of 6.1 or 7.1 on my receiver. I think they sound plenty good enough for additional select movie bass, what do you think?? Jon

Would it not be better to use these two subs in conjunction with your M22's and then set them as "large"? You could then use the other sub with the LFE and set the QS8's as small.

The thing is I have (4) subs, 2 are very high quality, loud, clean, fast and tight Earthquakes. The other 2 are JBL's, they are decent, but I am more critical with music when it comes to detail, on HT where it's more boom, I thoght the JBL's would provide added bass to the QS-8s, instead of just sitting there. If they were wired in sequence with the QS-8s I think My rear bass would sound better, (more of it) right now they are just collecting dust!!

I'd have serious questions about how much sub-100hz information actually gets sent to surrounds in the first place.

I've noticed that this does not happen, really, with Dolby Digital movies. But I have noticed this considerably in some DTS movies. A great example is in the ring drop scene in the LOTR: Fellowship EE in DTS. If you cut your side surrounds from large to small you'll notice a further extension of the bass and the "wave" disperses. All in the low end of the hertz spectrum. A fascinating experiment really.
