My first post here,

I've been reading through these foruums for about a week now and i keep getting side-tracked. There are 4 threads that have forced me to join this foruum..Beer..Axiom Tour...Floyd< Dark Side of the Moon>...Polotics. But wait, this is a foruum for a speaker manufacturer! Funny thing is these are all opinion threads which to me is what choosing speakers is all about.

I'm upgrading my system if you can call it that.
Rca STAV-3970
Speakers..this is kind of a joke..I use the speakers from this JBL ESC 550..You can look at it here:
http://manuals.harman.com/JBL/HOM/Owner%27s%20Manual/ESC550%20om.pdf
The sub on this housed the amps for the whole system which I removed, put on another back board with connections to the 2 subswoofers and power it through an old panisonic reciever I had.
I know, it looks like crap but it actually sounds pretty good considering.

It's a long terribly depressing story as to why I have a system like this, but times are better and an upgrade is definitly in order.

So I have some questions:
1.I've looked at seperates but I've pretty much decided on the Denon avr-2805/985...Anyone have an opinion on this unit or another suggestion? Must haves: rs-232c connection and at least 2 coax/2 optical digital inputs.

2.Speakers are pretty much narrowed down to axioms and I've never even heard them! My question here has to do with ohms as in I see some of the home theater packages have the surrounds with 6 ohms while the rest are 8 ohms I thought this was a no no?

Thanks in advance,
Leaf
PS James S Thank you for straightening out that password email thing lol last night I stayed up for hours refreshing my email so I could ask these silly questions.

Any good receiver that will drive 8 ohms will drive the 6 ohm QS8 surrounds - it really doesn't look that different to the receiver/amp. The 4 ohm M80 towers take a receiver stable to 4 ohms, however.

Thanks Bren,

I kinda figured that. My rooms sorta small so the M80's are out of the question for me.

People around here adore that line of Denon receivers. You should have no trouble driving any combination of Axiom speakers with it.
