I am looking at some serious subs, and I know that both of these places make some great ones...
Here are my choices ($599 each)

SVS PB1-ISD (12" 320 Watt)
SVS 20-39PCi (12" 320 Watt)
HSU STF-3 (12" 300 Watt)

After talking to Alan here (ok, via email anyway) he said that since I am having a home theater "area" in my basement, but no seperate room, I need to push some serious air volume.

Oh, here is some background. I am looking to make a pre-Christmas purchase of all of this, but I was originally looking at VP150 center, QS8 surrounds, and M22ti fronts. Alan also recomended M60ti fronts INSTEAD of the M22ti due to air volume again (kind of sucks since they are twice the price)... This will be used 99% of the time exclusively for movies. I know, it will sound so great that I will start listening to more and more music... Maybe, but it didn't happen in our last house, so who knows...

99% Movies? I'd give the SVS 20-9PCi a shot.

I would also go with the 20-39PCi
I have a 20-39PCi with M60s and the VP150....incredible sound with movies (and music).....couldn't be happier.

If you can...try to hear the subs, it would not be hard to hear the differences IMO. After comparing my older VTF-3 to a 20-39PC+, in my own room....the VTF-3 sounded cleaner. All are excellent subs.

Judging by that, I would choose a STF-3.

My conversations with Ron at SVS indicated that there is very little difference in performance between the PB1-ISD and 20-39PCi. I like the box form factor better.

Don't forget about shipping; a Factory Outlet Axiom EP350 will end up being ~$100 less than the SVS models including shipping cost, depending upon where you live.

But yes, you owe the board some serious contribution of actual content for trotting this one out again

Good point about the EP350. The PB1-ISD runs about $50 shipping, and the 20-39PCi runs about $25. So they are $650 and $625 respectively. I was looking at factory outlet Axioms anyway, so with the whole package (which is another 5% off) the package with the EP350 ends up $120 less than if I got the PB1-ISD and $95 cheaper than the 20-39PCi...

The big difference is that the EP350 is 200 watt and the others are 320 watt. I know that the Axiom subs are not bad subs, but people keep raving about SVS and HSU as better for the money.

Maybe I should open that up too.

SVS 20-39PCi vs. Axiom EP350 (factory outlet).... Is the SVS worth another $100???

If you are into movies, then I would venture that it probably is.

Why do you guys prefer the 20-39 over the PB1-ISD?

I've been waiting for a chance to post about my EP350 again. I'va always found it to be more than adequate in my HT. I added a 10" Energy sub (because I got it for free) and now run them both. The EP350 is extremely impressive by comparison. I've heard the SVS 20-39 as well. It was pretty good. $95 better? I dunno.

If you have cats, and they have access to your theater area, I wouldn't recommend the 20-39. Otherwise, go for it! If you like the looks of the tall cylinder, it sounds at least as good as the box subs and weighs a bit less.

Oh.. my PB1-ISD arrived yesterday. My back is still recovering from hauling it into my living room. It sounds incredible though. I set it at 1/3 volume and dialed it in at +3db. Sounds very natural with music - I was afraid it would sound overbearing but it isn't. On movies though!!!! Wow!!! I threw in Armageddon and watched the meteors smash NYC in chapter two.. I felt the entire room shake!

It would make one expensive scratching post.
