After 3 or 4 years with a Toshiba SD-4205 dvd player I am tired of it's quirky player controls. It has the worst FF and REV controls I have ever experienced. When FF to a particular portion within a chapter it will ALWAYS jump ahead a few seconds (or even to the beginning of the next chapter). This has become extremely annoying.

Can someone recommend a player with the following attributes:

- OUTSTANDING play controls (precise FF, REV, slow-mo, etc)
- Multidisc changer
- NO CUE bug
- Support for DVD-R & DVD-RW

Additional niceties (that are not necessary):

- Upsampling player (1080i)
- Quick Layer change
- No known quality quirks
- Support for DVD-RAM
- Name brand

I have begun researching this, but it is difficult to find comments about a player's controls. Anyone that uses player controls frequently and can recommend a particular model or brand?

I appreciate the help.

I know what you mean about the Toshiba. You mean all DVD players aren't like that? It's incredibly non-responsive. Navigating through menus is also slow.

Try Sony, get one from BestBuy or Circuit City, even the entry level 575 support virtually all media format, it's speedy to jump from track to track or chapter to chapter. Audio quality is on par with HK DVD22's wolfson DAC.

All the Denon's I have owned have had good controls. I must admit however that I don't pay to much attention to it. First for me is the picture and sound quality and if those are all good, I want a player that does layer changes fast. After that I look at the controls etc etc.

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like the Denons may be what I am looking for. The only problem is that I have always considered Denon to be a bit overpriced. Oh well, I may just have to try it.

Any other suggestions/experiences are still welcome.

I just recently picked up the Denon 1910 DVD with DVI and upconversion. It has pretty good FF and REV controls...and so far Im happy. One person commented on the components having better color than the DVI connection...the three discs I used to test this, I could not tell at both the 480p and 1080 settings...
