Looking to get a pair of M50ti’s as my front speakers and had some questions as I am not familiar with Axiom products:
•I will be using a Onkyo 5.1 receiver 100 watts per channel to drive the speakers. Will the Onkyo be sufficient to drive these speakers?
•My room is about 18 X 15 so I’m assuming that M50ti’s are perfect for my room size, my only concern being I hope they aren’t too big or boomy – any thoughts/ suggestions.
•What do these speakers sound like? I have read great reviews all over but what should I compare them too – Klipsch , KEF , Vienna Acoustics etc

i can answer your first and second question.
i have the M60's and power them with the Onkyo 701 receiver, which is 100wt per channel. the 701 powers my speakers flawlessly. it has no troubles what so ever. in fact, i have yet to crank the receiver to its complete capacity, cause its just too dang loud.
the M50's should be plenty of speaker for that size room. they will not be "big or boomy" at all. i have the M60's in a 28x26 room, and they can fill it completely.
now, as for how the 50's sound....? i have no idea, i have never heard them. but my 60's, in my opinion, sound better than the paradigms, infinities, and boston acoustics that auditioned.
maybe someone with some 50's can give a little more detailed advice.

As an old 50's owner and I can tell you that your current receiver will work fine with them and they will more then fill your room.
As for how they sound, think warm and slightly laid back. Ever heard a set of Paradigm Studio 40's V2? Real close to that but the M50's throw more sound.

I do own the M50s, but I've never heard anything that sounds like them. Probably Hales Revelation 2s are close, but it's been years since I heard those, and they don't make them any more. I really like the sound. They take a little bit of effort to place in order to get a good sound stage, but it is very accurate. I can hear guitars being plucked, bass drums being hit, and sometimes on well recorded stuff, piano keys lifting. Good 'nuff?
Oh yeah, I can hear the music, too.

And it you get your ear real close to the tweeter, you can even hear the individual electrons!
All kidding aside, the M50s are great speakers capable of finely detailed playback. Compared to the M60s, they are slightly less crisp on the high end. depending on your taste in speakers, that might me a plus or minus for you.

Kcarlile, Have you ever heard of the Hales ESS? I still have a pair after 25 years, and they still sound GREAT. I had to replace the woofer cones, but other than that they work great.

Can I use Monster cables to connect them to the Onkyo amp or does everyone use Axiom cables/wires ?

You can use more or less any wire. Radio Shack, etc. It doesn't have to be the much hyped Monster. They are no better then anyone else's cables.
