I just watched the Chronicles of Riddick on DVD. I liked the movie ok but I was very disappointed in the sound track. Often times, a door slam had more dynamics and impact than the gun battle scenes. Not a lot of pant flapping subwoofer action either. Anyone else notice this or is it just me expecting too much?

Anyone know why the Director's cut DVD is unrated?

My guess would be because they didn't submit it to the ratings board. ???

That's what my son's gf just told me. Didn't realize she was that bright.

That is strange to me -- I just watched the move and thought it had way too much bass... well, a lot of bass at any rate (no such thing as way too much bass?)

but I see what you mean by the door slam/dynamics thing. Some of the gun fights looked like they sounded cool, but they didn't really sound cool...

I'm with wid, I thought it sounded fine all the way around. My SVS was jumping a few times.

Yeah, it just sounded like something was missing in those gun battles.

I guess the sub bass was ok. I just thought some of those fly overs should have sounded more dramatically woofie.

I agree mwc, the sound sometimes didn't match the action on the screen. The mix seemed good, but not too dynamic. The battle over Hellion Prime, and the scene when Riddick and Co. were running on the surface of Crematoria were the only exceptions that I can think of. Great movie though.

well, obviously a few scenes before that he put at least 4 ounces of water on himself. I think that would be MORE than enough water to protect him from 700 C+ temperatures...

The other thing is that based on Pitch Black he is supposedly very light sensitive. He was walking all over the baddies ship which was fairly bright. Not to mention that the stunt he pulled to grab the girl was in the full path of the blistering sun. And again as I said earlier...all we get after that is a steaming baked potato effect.

The soundtrack definitely had more bass than the scenes. This was the first movie with my new HSU VTF3. The ovie has okey bass. Any current DVD titles with lots of sub 25hz tracks?

The Haunting, DTS-ES Discrete version. Not current, but still among the best.As for COR, yeah I guess that scene is pretty unbelievable when compared to the rest of the film.
