The M60s are 8-ohm speakers and the VP-150 is a 6-ohm speaker. Since it draws more current, it's no surprise that the VP-150 sounds louder before calibration.

But -4dB at 75dB SPL? It just feels wrong.

Absolutely. But, I had to resist my natural urge round up to -3. Perfect calibration would have been -3.5 which my HK630 can't do. I guess it wa's just the Tim Taylor "more power" gene kicking in again...

I did listen to it with the wrong setting thinking something wasn't right for many months. Turning it down did was not the 1st thing that came to mind as the fix though...

>>Sorry, I needed to add that our room is 15x15x8 with the listening position about 10' back. We use this mostly for HT and some music. Thanks.

The pattern I saw was that people in normal sized rooms didn't hear any significant difference between VP100 and 150, while people in large rooms did find the 150 sounded better. Based on your room size I wouldn't expect you to hear much difference. Is there anything else you wanted to upgrade that might be a better use of the $$$ ?

The other rule of thumb is that your center speaker should not be wider than your television or it looks funny

Naaa... Good job, no kids, no wife, paid off truck, low house payment. Life is good. There's nothing but AVR stuff, fast women (and the obligatory occasional cheap one), booze, and skiing between now and April. I bought my speakers same time last year, nothing has changed.

I actually bought it because as the thread title said, I didn't want the "what ifs". I owned my last speakers for 19 years, and I figured that there might be a larger room in my gear's future. If I had to do it all over again, and was certain that I'd be in the same house for the next 20 years, I'd have gone with the 100. The 150 probably matches more evenly power wise with the 80s. It's a monster for sure. I've actually had the "what ifs" in reverse... If had the 100, would it have been OK? Most likely, yes.

I got lucky, my tv is 58" wide. The 150 looks like the "right" size up there.
