Hello
I have the Yammy RXV 1300 with a fixed crossover of 90Hz
Would I notice a BIG difference if I used another receiver
with a 80Hz crossover
I am using the Yammy as a pre/pro with a NAD 925 amp
M22 VP150 and QS8 and a SVS 25-31 sub (tuned to 22Hz)
Thanks

i would say there would be a slight difference, but it would be extremely minimal. i honestly doubt if you could hear an audible difference.
if this is a 'major' factor in deciding whether or not to get a new receiver, then i would say stick with what you got.
just my opinion.

I would say no, I keep switching between 80Hz and 60Hz on my 3803 and cannot hear a big difference (for 2.1 Stereo).

The difference I can hear from 80hz on my new Sherwood and 90hz on my old Sony is minimal if any...
If 90 is as close to 80 as you can get, set it and forget it...
But listen to the setting above and below it, one may sound better to your ears in your situation...never know till you try.

Would there be a way to disable the receiver's built in option, and use the sub, to set the crossover? I'm not familiar with that model of receiver....

Yea ... I was thinking of that...I think you set all speakers to
large and enable the SVS crossover

Mark, don't worry about it. Although THX and others have found that 80Hz is about the best compromise, being high enough to relieve the speakers and amps of a significant part of the lowest bass load but not so high as to make the sub easily localizable, 90Hz is very little different. Don't even think of passing up the benefits of an HT receiver's bass management and instead forcing the speakers and amps to carry the full bass load(and trying to adjust the typically inaccurate internal crossover on the sub).

I have the M22ti with SVS PB1-ISD, best result in my room is the other way around, setting the xover on the PB1 at around 60hz and run the M22ti in full range.

OK
thanks for all the great advice..I was seriously thinking of getting the Yammy 1400 (Hey, Im a Yamaha fan) just for the variable crossover..but after all this good and honest advice I will keep my trusty Yammy 1300 and be happy with the fixed crossover......I just been having "tweakitis"....sub localization was never a problem for me with the crossover at 90Hz

Well, I have a Pioneer D812, which has a subwoofer Plus setting and a lowest crossover setting of 100Hz. So I've got my 3 M22's set to large, running full range and the sub also gets everything below 100Hz from all the speakers.
Not ideal, but it helps delocalise the bass; I was getting irritated hearing bass guitar sounds from the sub and not the mains.
