Not a very original question to be sure as it's posed thousands of times over the various audio boards on the net, but I'm getting down to the purchasing crunch and I've nailed it down to Axiom.

Here's a simple run down of my budget and the prices are in CDN funds.

$1000.00 for the Denon 2805 receiver (paid for)
$2400.00 for the Infocus 4805 and a 106" dalite screen.
$2000.00 for the couch (maybe less after I shop around)
$300.00 to build the wall for the screen
$500.00 for connections (Already have most of the connections except for the long arse component cable, speaker wire and power conditioner/surge protector)

This only leaves me with around $2700.00-3000.00 CDN for all the speakers and thus brings me to the original question - what system to consider?

I don't want to go too small and be disappointed with the sound presence but there has to be a point of diminishing returns on going bigger - especially within my limited budget.

My room is fairly average in size being about 25’ long by about 18’ wide. It’s all carpeted with a fairly dense padding and the ceiling (about 9’ high) is somewhat hip shaped since it’s the ½ story in our 2-1/2 story home.

I’m back and forth between the Epic 50 (with a slightly larger sub) and the standard Epic 60 system.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Get the couch from Goodwill and go with the Epic 80 system and an EP600.

Go with the Epic 60 system, and bump the VP100 up to the VP150. That room is perfect for that system.

If you buy the M60s, VP150, QS8s and the EP350 from the FActory Outlet, it would come to 2650.50 CAD, which is $18.50 CAD more than the Epic 60 system. That would be getting the $418.50 CAD, Factory Outlet, VP150 for $18.50 CAD. Now THAT'S a deal.

Buying from the Factory Outlet can be a little daunting, but I bought my speakers from the Outlet, and it took me two weeks of hard looking to find the slight cosmetic flaws. I would NEVER have found them if the sun wasn't shining on them just right. No one would ever notice them unless they were really searching for them.

Just a thought.

Absolutely agree....My Mansfields came from the FO, and I have yet to see any blemishes or flaws..to top it off, they came about a week and a half early... making me a happy camper...

4L, welcome. Of the items which you're buying, the speakers will by far have the greatest effect on the sound which you'll enjoy. It does seem that possibly a little less spent on the couch and connections and skipping a power conditioner would make money available for more significant items. I'd suggest M60s, a vertical M22 under the screen for a center(or even better, a third M60 if there would be room), QS8 surrounds and your choice of sub.

Here's another vote for factory outlet speakers. Especially if it means the difference between getting what you want/need, definitely go with the FO if budget is a concern. They'll sound just as exellent and flaws, if any, will be neglible.

I agree that the outlet is the way to go and like Ajax, I have yet to find the issue that made my QS4's B stock.

I would however not go with the EP350. You may want to go on www.audiogon.com to see if you can get a good HSu or SVS sub. You could save $$ by going with a used sub. If you do not want used, I know that HSU has some great subs that are less $$ then the EP350 and are a better unit.

You've got that link backwards...the /url goes at the end, not the front...

Here...I've tidied it up as well.
