i have my QS8's mounted at about 7ft high, and the top of the speaker is approx 8-9 inches below the ceiling. sounds just fine.

I have mine about 8 inches from the ceiling (my basement ceiling is only 7' !!) and they sound great.

I mounted them with the FM bracket, and tilted them slightly forward (as far forward as the bracket allows)...my thinking was that the top woofer's sound will reflect off the ceiling, and the lower woofer will reflect off of the wall.
