Did anyone know that? I went through this exact same thing and settled on banana's in the end. In fact I still have a bunch of the spades that I 'couldn't use'. Time to redo my cables - I actually love messing around with my stuff almost as much as listening to it!

Pretty sneaky hiding it like that.

If I understood a previous post correctly I did the same thing with my QS8's: I put one blade of a spade through the center hole while the other blade was alongside the post.

I thought it was just me....it's good to see no one else did it right either! This forum grades on a curve, right?

Thank you very much for the post, unfortunately putting on a ¼” spade isn’t as easy as it sounds.

First you are correct there is a slot on the binding post that will accept a ¼” spade (barely), in fact the spade will fit on one of the posts on the positive side, but not the other.

Secondly there is a cross over between the upper and lower post, this cross over also connects in the same place that the slot is for the ¼” spade. You have to take everything apart, move the cross over above washer (on both posts) while holding the ¼” spade under the washer on the bottom post.

As much as it sounds like I am being critical here, that is not my intention. Just trying to point out my problems with the ¼” spade.

Why won't your 1/4-inch spade lug fit on the other post? The indents on each post are consistent, or should be. Are there variations in the inside measurement of your lugs?

If there are inconsistencies in the posts, I want to know about them so we can demand greater precision from our supplier.

Not to be picky or anything, but one of my binding posts on one of my M60's is missing the hole where bare wire goes. It's not a problem though as I just use the other set. I just thought that was odd.

Missing the hole? That's serious! Maybe the post got rotated (here's hoping. . ) so the hole is crossways? Anyway, I've relayed various comments to my colleagues at the plant, so much measurement and inspection is taking place.

I inspected and measured the 1/4-inch indents on the posts on my M2i's and M80s and they all measured 1/4-inch. None were missing the hole. How bizarre!

Thank you for your concern, I had a number of posts that the ¼” spade wouldn’t fit. Not that it mattered too much; I just bent them out a bit. The way I look at it, is that the binding post are 3/8” so actually the speakers are made to accept a 3/8” spade, but they will accept a ¼” spade due to the slot. The web site says that the speakers are made to accept a ¼” spade, which “technically” is a true statement. But actually the ¼” spade is a pain to put on the speaker and the 3/8” spade would be the better choice. I would have bought the 3/8” spade if I had known the binding posts were 3/8”.

I am going to post pics once I get my stand completed, which should be next weekend. A decent stand is expensive, $750 - $1000 just for a halfway decent stand; double that for a nice one. I figure I can build one for less than $500 and get to keep all the tools I need to buy. (i.e. $150 biscuit joiner)

Speakers look great and sound even better, although I haven’t had time to set everything yet. I haven’t had a new receiver in about 10 years, so I am going through a bit of a learning curve with the 3805. I bought the SPL meter, so just waiting on the Avia DVD to arrive.
