I appreciate the nod, Fog. There aren't many of us who have broken the code. Kind of a "Matrix" thing with a marriage twist. I've also boiled my responses to my wife down to two, and only two, to anything she says:

1) OK
2) You're right, I'm sorry

Completely eliminates heartache and adrenaline spikes.

>>I finally realized that once I married, I had no preferences. Fortunately, my wife has been able to provide consistent support over the years with explaining what my judgment is and providing me with my opinion. I will ask her how much I like your entertainment center.

It's not that bad, really. We're all on this board because we exercised our judgement on speakers (right ? hands up everyone who can honestly say their partners forced Axioms on them).

The secret IMO is (a) finding someone whom you agree with in the areas you both feel to be important, (b) dividing all other topics into "you care" and "they care" buckets wherever possible, (c) discussing in the remaining areas of overlap with extreme delicacy, respect and bribery.

You pick the speakers. They pick the entertainment center AND the finish of the speakers. You negotiate VERY carefully on the size and placement, bribing with foot rubs whenever negotiations break down. Everyone happy.

bridgman, you're getting into the higher level (graduate school) marriage coursework. But you are right about the speakers. Several of my colleagues who seem to wear the pants in the house moreso than I do have had to get all their speakers in the wall or ceiling and have paid a lot more money than I did for a system that doesn't sound as good as mine. It's all about which battles you choose to fight.

Correct, (pick your battles) that's why regardless of woodgrain, and cabinets, my speakers have NOT been influenced by my significant other. Janis counted, YES actully counted the drivers, with complaints in mind. 29 total, 27 Axiom, and 2 SVS black water heaters. So if she wants an oak cabinet in "her" favorite room, fine, I'll just LISTEN to it all. Happy new year guys.
