Hello you all,
The Denon 3805 allows the ability to connect two sets of surround speakers (multichannel music/movie). Does anyone have a setup similar to the following with a Denon 3805?
QS8 for surround (A)
QS8 for rear (A)
a direct radiating speaker for multichannel audio, say M3, or M22?(B)

Would the sound imaging be noticeably improved with this setup?

Just curious ... won't be able to afford an extra M3/M22 pair even if it did for now, but nice to know if I come by some extra cash in the future.

Ananth,

If I understand what I think you are trying to say. The 3805 is a 7.1 channel receiver. For the rears and surrounds, which speakers are best for the surrounds and rears (Qs8s, M2, M3). Should they rears and/or surrounds be radiating or direct speakers.

I'm not trying to offend you, but I was confused and I think this is what you might have asked. If not, I apologize.

Ray,
NO offence taken, appreciate your enquiry. To clarify: the Denon 3805 allows two sets (not pairs) of surround speakers to be used in the same configuration.

One set: the usual bipolar (or in our case Quadpolar) surrounds and rear speakers (QS8 surrounds, QS8 rear)

second set: a pair of direct radiating speakers for multichannel music

The setup menu allows for both sets of speakers (3 pairs total) to be connected. The receiver would use the first set of speakers (QS8 for surrounds and QS8 for rear) for movies, and switch to a direct radiating speaker (M3, M22?) for multichannel music. I think the receiver has separate banana connectors for Surround A (surround and rear) and Surround B (only one pair).

Just to enquire if adding the extra pair of direct radiating speakers (as surround B) using the above configuration yields a more precise soundstage for DVD Audio or SACD music sources.

Thanks Ray.
Ananth

P.S. I received the Denon 2900 yesterday. SOLID construction, it feels comparable to the 3910 in build quality. I was listening to Blue Man Group (the complex) yesterday, simply amazing. Need to buy a few DVD Audio/SACD disks to sample the enhanced resolution also!

Advacdude,
I have a Denon 3803 and I use the (B) channel setting on my Denon for a set of M80ti these are set to the rear sides I run these along with the front M80ti and the center VP150 when listening to SACD or DVD-A. This is a perfect tonal match also you could use the M22ti in the side rear position the same as I use the m80ti. Hope you understand what I am saying.

koimon,
AWESOME setup! Boy, 4 M80Ti's would be heaven!

If I'm on a budget could I expect results in the same ballpark if I attach M22s to the Surround B banana jacks? A subwoofer will be connected to the receiver of course (don't have one yet)

Thanks again for the feedback!

Advacdude,
Yes! the M22ti are a perfect tonal match to the M80ti and work very well in a SACD and DVD-A situation. As you can see I also have a set om m22ti along with M3ti's. I also am a lover of TUBES. I have a Cayin TA-30 that I have hooked up to my M3ti's and a Bottlehead Foreplay Pre amp Matched to a SS Marantz MM9000 5 Channel Power Amp Running the M22ti's and a subwoofer.

"Speakers are on, when you're at home,
Your ears are not your own.
The treble's sweet, the bass shakes

There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your throat is tight, you can't breathe
Another listen is all you need!

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff,

oh yeah

It's closer to the truth to say
You can't leave the sweet spot,
You know you're gonna have to face it,
You're addicted to AXIOM"

Alright just a little clarification here.. If you shove some speakers on that lovely third surround channel. How do you specify Which speakers it uses for what? Can you? like for example say "use these speakers for DD and DTS, and use those speakers for stereo/5ch stereo/7ch stereo/etc" ?

Hi Daphoid,
Yes you can! I checked out my paper manual, and found that it was even more capable than I initially realized.

The 3 pairs of speakers are recognized separately by the receiver, and there are 3 pairs of banana jacks at the rear of the receiver for:
a. surround speaker (A)
b. surround back/multi zone speaker (A) (doubles as either the rear surround, or powered zone 2 speakers)
c. surround speaker system (B)

Here's the part I didn't know before ... the receiver provides a great deal of flexibility: it is possible to specify the speaker system (A or B) -- INDIVIDUALLY -- for the following sources:
a. dolby/DTS cinema
b. dolby/DTS music
c. Dolby PLIIx game
d. Wide screen
e 5ch/7ch stereo
f. DSP simulation
g. multi ch mode
h. EXT in.

For a fuller description, may I point you to pages 15, 20 and 38 in the online manual for the 3805.
