First its suposed to be the same as the Yamaha 1400 according to Yamaha. I owned a HK-525 which I loved but Ive had to get it fixed twice and Ive given up on it. Anyway I was about to purchase a surround system from axiom and I read on one of these reviews that the Yamaha sounded bright and was not a good match with the axiom speakers that a warmer sounding speaker would be better. Does anyone have an opinion or recommendation. Thanks. Incase its important I was going to go with the M2i in the front with the VP100 center and QS4 as my rear surrounds. I just bought a Velodyne DPS 10" Sub for a 5.1 Thanks again.

Let me say I do not have any Axiom speakers, just plenty of their cable. If I were to choose a reciever based on what I've read it would be my very own Denon x2 with zero problems or a Harmon Kardon. Now, feel free to look over all the past threads as there are many to see and you may find something interesting to read. One of the "experienced" Axiom speaker owners will probabably chime in here sometime. Did I say too much?

Hey there Max, and welcome...don't read to much into comments like bright, warm, harsh, etc.... When I was shopping for a receiver I was looking at the Yammy 1400, Denon 2805, and Pioneer Elite 54tx. I was so confused at all the feedback, especially from avsforum.com, talk about a bunch of hogwash. If possible, the best thing is to try to demo the receiver and speakers. Stay away from listening at Best Buys, Ultimate Elec., etc... I have found that it is better to try to find someone in your area in a real life environment. As far as the Axioms go, you will absolutely love them if you decide to make a purchase. I would check out the Auditioning in your Area forum in the Questions and Answers section of this board. You may be able to find a few people where you can listen to some receiver/Axiom combos.

The 5790/1400 is a great receiver, and I believe a few Axiomites on here have that combination. I ended up with the Denon 2805 and I love the sound I'm hearing. I was told Denon's are mechanical and bright, and to add bright Axioms would be a big no no, that I wanted something warmer to tone the Ax's down a bit. Well the techs at Axiom customer service told me the opposite, that Denon was one of their biggest recommendations. I don't think you would go wrong with the Yammy either, I almost purchased that same model....Randy

Max, disregard the nonsense that you read about the 5790. It's a fine receiver, designed to be neutral in sound, and it is. It will make beautiful music with those Axioms.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Max, welcome. I must agree with Jhon (kind of a habit I've developed based on his always terrific advice ) and Randy. If you like the Yammy - grab it. It will work very well and part of this whole thing is about making yourself happy with your choices.

I don't know what room size you are working with or if there is a typo involved, but the m2 might be a tad small for a full system. If this is a typo and you meant M22, knock yourself out. In any event, touching base with Axiom via phone relative to matching room and equipment is always prudent.

Actually, I ran M2i mains in my HT for quite a while and was VERY happy with them. IMO it all depends on the room size -- my system was in one end of a 13x23 room and was just great. I did swap between M60s and M2s as mains and found the M2s were fine for "about 2/3 of the room" but weren't quite up to filling the whole 13x23 room with loud, clear sound.

I ended up donating the cheap tower surrounds to my brother-in-laws new system so now have the M60s as mains and M2s as surrounds, but IMO the M2s are surprisingly good as mains if the room isn't too big.

Enjoy your new system.

Max, I agree, total nonsense. Give me a blind fold, and tell the "experts" to bring their cash! I have the Yamaha rx-v1500, just a newer version of the 1400, very similar to what you have. With the Axioms, and with my Yam they are not "bright" or harsh. If fact just last night, they were described as "very soothing" sometimes people just want to sound overly analytical, smarter than the rest, the golden ear syndrome. The combination is wonderful. You can't go wrong with that choice, and the Denon receivers are awesome, there are many great receivers, pay more attention to features that are important to YOU. It's kinda like the guy with the Mercedes saying the ride of the Lexas sucks. It's a bunch of crap. IMO

Then you're going to be a very happy camper when the system shows up. You will want to run the M2s set to Small in order to get the most out of the system, probably crossing over at 100 Hz.
