Aloha everyone,

I am new to all of this and I am trying to set up my wiring for my speakers.I am planning on runing a 7.1 setup with QS8's as my side surrounds and M2's for my rear surrounds. All of these will be hooked up as "A" side and rear surround speakers respectively. I realize that the "B" surround outs are ment for a seperate pair of speakers all together, but this is all I have. My question, is it possible, safe and/or recommended that I hook up the rear surround M2's also to the "B" surround inputs at the same time, that I may select the "B" surrounds using the M2's for 5.1 channel music , SACD, and DVD-Audio? I'm using bare wire for connections. Please advise, any problems or concerns.

Thank You for your knowledge and help

Hi HIP and welcoe. Let's see if we can get you pulling both oars at the same time.

If you take a look at page 15 of the 3805 manual, there is a very clear picture of the speaker connections that will answer your question. Surround A speakers connections are used for the sides (above and to the right of the reciever picture). Surround B connections are used for the rears (below the receiver picture in the box with the dotted lines). Note that the dotted line box also has reference to page 46 of the manual.

Page 32 explains the speaker set up menu/settings.

You may also want to review the rest of the manual in some detail. This is a very nice receiver, but it is complex and will require some commitment to familiarizing yourself with the details in the manual to extract its secrets.

Surround B is for a second/alternate pair of speakers, like direct firing for 5.1, SACD, and DVD-Audio. The surround back left and right channel are at the bottom right of the diagram on page 15.
I would like to wire the set up as follows. I only have 2 pairs of surrounds QS8's (on the side) and M2's (in the rear)

For 7.1:
QS8's to Surround Speakers System "A" L & R
M2's to Surround Back L & R

For 5.1 Music:
M2's to Surround Speakers System "B" L & R

I want to know is it is okay, safe, or even adviseable to run the Surround Speakers System B to the M2's at the same time they are also connected to the Back Surround L & R. Please are there any hazards or sonic problems with this set up?

Thanks again
