Try to keep the QS8's close to Dolby Labs specifications as possible. A step ladder is a good tool for testing the positioning of the QS8's.

How close? Well it depends where your seating area is,
If the couch (assuming you're using a couch) is out say 5 feet from the wall, then you can put them back a bit, but I'm assuming that if you're using side walls for the surrounds, your either using one end of a room, or your couch is at the back wall already.
A) IF COUCH IS AT BACK WALL
Place the speakers on the side wall about 3-4 feet up from ear level. Place them in line with the middle of the couch.
B) IF THERE IS SPACE BEHIND THE COUCH
Place them back a few feet, although I'm not sure how this would sound as usually they'd be pointing towards the couch in this scenario...
That's as best a guess as I can give you, mine are ceiling moutned with full metal brackets, so they're tilting down on a 45 degree angle, they work lovely.
Good Luck!

I was very, very limited in my mounting options.
The back of my room opens into the kitchen, so there was only so far back I could go from my listening position.
I ended up mounting them almost directly to the side of my listening position, perhaps about 6 inches back from in line with my head. In addition, they are not even even from one side of the room to the other. Off by about 4 inches. Both are about 2.5 feet above my ears when I am in listening position, and I am about 3 feet closer to the left speaker than I am to the right. One speaker is about 4 inches from the ceiling, the other is about 12 inches from the ceiling, even though they are level with each other! (there is a wierd configuation in our townhome)
Even given all of that, they sound simply incredible. Massive improvememnt from my old Polk FX300I's.
I think that Axiom is right on the nose when they say that these are very forgiving speakers when it comes to placement options.
The only thing I had to do was compensate some (about 2 db's) for the speaker that is further from my listening position.
So, as much as you might worry about where to mount them for optimum performance, I think that you will find that they sound incredible wherever you are able to mount them.
Good Luck... But I'm guessing that they are already up!
