I can change the size of each speaker in my DVD (Pioneer) control set-up (i.e. set my fronts to large/small, tell it whether I have a sub, etc.). My receiver (Yamaha RX-V750) also lets me do the same.
I hook up my DVD player using a digital coax.
My question is whether the speaker size that I tell my DVD player makes any difference, or whether the information getting passed on the digital line ignores that input regarding speaker size.
On the other hand, if it does recognize the speaker size, will it be doing some bass management for me (in theory) and if so, what plausible negative impact might that have, if any?
Lastly, assuming that the DVD player passes that info on (i.e. does bass management, etc.) and my receiver is doing that as well, what setting should I have my DVD player so that all the information gets sent to the receiver so that it can work out the details?
Thanks in advance.

With a digital output, your DVD player ignores your settings for speaker size and all such processing happens in the receiver. So you should be OK!

Bonus. Thanks Joe. It kind of just struck me this morning that I might want to go fiddle with this setting. I won't worry about it though.
Stupid question anyway...
